This will be controversial, but I’m hoping to have a real conversation about this.
Acrylic can be an excellent enhancement for fingernails. However, it should never be used to rebuild or sculpt toenails.
It is too hard and inflexible for toes. If a client is athletic or accidentally stubs a toe, all of that impact will move into the matrix causing (potentially permanent) damage. Additionally, acrylic is not appropriate to be applied onto the skin and can cause allergies if done so.
There are products made specifically for this purpose!
Nanoflex by Fuzion, LCN’s Barefoot Gel, ’s Nail Repair Gel, has a toenail gel, too!
All of these products are formulated to be safe to be applied to the skin and will also have the appropriate flexibility for toes.
If you’re a tech who uses acrylic on toes and you’ve never experienced a problem, I am truly thrilled to hear that! However, just because we can use acrylic on toes, doesn’t mean we should, and if there’s a safer product out there, don’t we want to use it for the sake of our clients’ health? I’d welcome the conversation on this topic!
