I’ve had the best time beekeeping with Tracy .bees on Block Island, RI. She’s renowned for her honey I’m telling you. She and her dog Bodhi are island legends around here. Did I get covered in ticks? I did. Was it worth it? It was.
I have wanted to visit my beekeeping friend Tracy Finn on Block Island for years. She’s got a fabulous bee business here. Her bees do so well in this island paradise in the summer and fall flows of astonishing flora and precious little pesticides. Yesterday she hosted a hive tour with a lovely mother/daughter for a birthday. I love Tracy so much and seriously, she has the very best yummy 😋 honey 🍯. .bees
Couldn’t help but notice this little blonde bee, newly hatched and toddling around the hive cover. My bees are a mishmash of colors and patterns normally but she was more of a rare color to find.
A swarm is a group of disembodied bees held fast as one heart beating together by a queen bee’s pheromone. They are both delicate and amorphous as well as mighty and capable. Catching and rehoming a swarm has “bee magic” juju all over it.
Honey House opened at Patch of Heaven!
It’s hard to describe the fullness of my heart and soul from our World Bee Day celebration at but the positive effects are lasting long after the event. We’re so grateful to a hive of people who helped make this happen! And another swarm of people who signed up and came to participate! We were engaged by a wonderful talk by Dr Jason Graham of and we all cheered for our official ribbon cutting for the new educational Honey House. Twenty-three people donned bee suits🤺 to go check on our hives🐝 with in the new insulated Primal Bee Hives and finally we all enjoyed the heck out of the Honey Brunch 😋. Each person made their own lip balm with and learned about pollinator plants with Randall on a curated pollinator walk in the mindful pocket park. Queen bee of the day Suzanne officiated and led the flow beautifully. read her new children’s book Ophelia the Bee and signed copies! I think we were all blown away by all the shared knowledge and experiences with and about our most important friends - THE BEES! Stay tuned for future bee and pollinator related events and happenings at Patch.

Such hard work but a big relief to say good by to the old wooden bee boxes at Patch of Heaven Sanctuary. Our upgrade to the super insulated and thermodynamic Primal Bee Hives is complete! I can already see the difference in the bees in properly insulated brood boxes so letting go of old equipment honestly feels like coming into the 2020’s properly as a responsible beekeeper. And yes, I am learning to speak Spanish! Camilo my assistant has no problem teaching me thank goodness. 😅🐝💛 So to learn more about these hives go to www.primalbee.com and don’t forget this Sunday May 17th we will have Dr. Jason Graham here to learn and experience in depth about the bees. Join us for the World Bee Day Symposium via the link in the bio ☝️
