You guys always ask me so many questions about skin when I post my bridal makeup tutorials. The truth is, a lot of the steps you see are not things I would necessarily do on an everyday basis. Bridal makeup is designed to last for hours, through tears, heat, sweat, hugs, and photos.
But there is ONE step that is absolutely essential every single time you do makeup — HYDRATION.
No matter your skin type:
oily, dry, or combination…
HYDRATE BEFORE, BETWEEN, AND EVEN AS A FINAL STEP.
Proper hydration is what creates that smooth, skin-like, non-cakey finish and helps makeup melt into the skin and last all day.
Even if you have oily skin — do not skip hydration.
I personally have very oily skin and I still use hydrating toner and moisturizer before applying makeup because this is what allows the skin to properly hold the layers of makeup.
When skin is dehydrated, makeup sits on top of the skin instead of blending into it.
And that’s when people start saying their makeup looks cakey.
Hydration is the secret to long-lasting, smooth, flawless makeup.
The most important part of makeup is HYDRATION.
No matter your skin type or age, properly hydrating your skin before makeup is the #1 step for a smooth, skin-like, long-lasting application🧼🧴

“Cakey makeup” is almost never the makeup artist’s fault.
I know this might be controversial, but most of the time cakey makeup is the result of neglected skin.
Makeup sits on top of the skin.
It cannot fix:
• dehydration
• flaky skin
• peeling skin
• texture from lack of exfoliation
• extremely dry or damaged skin barrier
Even the most expensive luxury foundation and the best makeup artist in the world cannot make unhealthy skin look perfectly smooth with makeup alone.
When skin is hydrated, exfoliated, and taken care of, makeup melts into the skin and looks flawless.
When skin is dry or neglected, foundation grabs onto those areas and starts looking heavy or “cakey.”
This is exactly why I send my brides skin prep instructions months before their wedding. Because the secret to flawless makeup is not the foundation… it’s the skin underneath it.
Good skin = beautiful makeup.

The fact that there is a wedding planner on TikTok advising brides not to tell hair and makeup vendors that the service is for a wedding so they can pay less is insane to me.😱
As a wedding planner, you should be the first person telling your client to do the exact opposite.✅
But the same planner is okay with a $2,000 budget for napkins, but somehow more than $100 for professional makeup is considered robbery.

But somehow it’s okay to spend $2,000 on napkins, yet when makeup costs more than $50 suddenly it’s a scam 🤔Brides, trust me when I say there is no “wedding tax.” I can’t speak for every vendor, but 9 out of 10 times your hair and makeup artists are actually undercharging, no matter how expensive you think it is. We are simply charging what it costs to provide the service you are booking us for.🤍
There is a vendor for every budget, and you should spend your money where you personally see the value.💕
