The history of modern perfumery is a story told in scent.

In our latest journal entry, we walk through one hundred years of fragrance, decade by decade. The 1920s gave us Chanel No. 5, Shalimar, and Lanvin Arpège, the three great pillars that defined modern perfumery and introduced aldehydes, the oriental family, and the modern flacon as a work of art.

The postwar decades brought Miss Dior and the long reign of the chypre, the family of fragrance built on oakmoss that anchored nearly every great scent for almost fifty years. The 1950s and 1960s saw Hollywood glamour with L'Interdit and Youth Dew, the rise of the American fragrance industry with Norell, and the men's revolution of Eau Sauvage. The 1970s gave us Charlie, O***m, and the freedom of the Me Decade.

The 1980s were perfumery at full volume, with Giorgio Beverly Hills, Poison, and Obsession. The 1990s pulled back toward transparency with L'Eau d'Issey and CK One. The 2000s and 2010s redefined luxury through niche, with houses like Maison Francis Kurkdjian and Parfums de Marly. And today, personalization, layering, and craftsmanship shape how we wear fragrance.
