hugging everything I can get my hands on today hbu?

reminding you that no executive order can erase your existence, take away who you are, what you stand for. no amount of hatred and bigotry will deter those of us who love you to do anything other than stand with you and for you.

i will always be committed to protecting and supporting you in whatever form that may take both in and out of clinic.

pause. breathe. repeat. rest is resistance and you deserve a moment.

body love looks like this 🥹

one of my fave therapies: fire cupping 🔥

a traditional holistic practice used in Chinese, Egyptian and Middle Eastern medicine, fire cupping uses suction from heat to help with pain relief, increased circulation, inflammation reduction, relaxation and enhanced immune function 🌟

and yes I did get heart shaped cups you’re welcome lol.

see you soon ❤️

a lot of folks tell me they’ve never been to a chiropractor or haven’t gone back because it feels too intense/they don’t like the cracking sound/they’re sore after getting treated.

WELL HOLY HANNAH do I have news for you. I get it.

Not all chiro treatments are created equal. Want intense muscle work with the typical hands on adjustments? If we decide that’s most aligned based on your exam, great. Done.

Want something a lil softer on your body and/or feel like you have a sensitive nervous system? A gentle and just as effective technique I use at clinic (sneak peek above) is a combo of tuning fork therapy, pelvic blocks and activator (a small clicking tool that provides more specific adjustments with controlled force).

I have found this series of techniques to really soothe the nervous system (much needed in this world) while ensuring we are on a pathway out of pain. Many of my patients have told me they have taken a lil cat nap during this treatment, especially after some cupping 😍

So. Whatever treatment style you prefer, I’ve probably got a tool for it. And if I don’t, I’ll help you find someone who does so we can co-manage. 🙃

In healing always,
Dr. Z ❤️

things that have come up lots this week at clinic:

emotionally:
• grief • fatigue • anxiety • exhaustion • depression •

physically:
• upper back tension • jaw soreness • headaches • eye pain • sinus congestion •

what does this tell me? that we get to be in full-blown recovery mode right now. basic needs. have you moved your body in a way that feels good? softened your jaw? put nourishing foods into your body? done something that brings you joy?

if not, let’s just observe that before placing judgment. be gentle with yourself. self care and protection and prevention is rooted in softness and tenderness.

today I will be making a large pot of soup, visioning/ideating for the new year, cuddling my cats and taking a low impact peloton ride 😍

how will you show up for yourself today?

“How is your body feeling? No, like actually though?”
-me every time you walk into Evren lol

A lot of folks often have trouble describing their pain. Me too sometimes tbh.

So here’s the thing we are gonna do a cute lil activity. Grab a pen and paper. No, I’m serious.

Got it? Okay. Now set your phone timer for 2 minutes, take a big breath, and without thinking too much about it, answer the following question:

What do you feel in your body in this moment?

I’m giving you no context on purpose. There aren’t wrong answers. Go. 2 minutes.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Welcome back. Here are some other things you just gifted yourself (benefits of journaling): elevated memory and communication skills 🧠, improved sleep 😴, quicker healing, plus you identified some sensations in your body, which means you got to know yourself a bit better. 😎

Allow yourself to pause. Once a day, once a week, whatever. You deserve that time and you’ll be able to more easily recognize sensations and label them first as information rather than going straight into a (very valid and fair) nervous system response. 🙏🏽

Soften your shoulders. You got this.

Would it even be an Evren post if I didn’t talk about something no one wants to talk about 😬

So here’s a pill. It’s called fluoxetine, and it’s what we call a Selective Serontonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) which helps reduce depression symptoms by increasing serontonin (one of our happy hormones) levels in our bodies. It’s mine. I take it every day. I have since April. 💊

I do my best to be just *mindfully* critical of my profession because I believe that’s what helps us grow. One of the things I’m not aligned with in my profession is the rejection of medication altogether.

I wholeheartedly believe there is a time and a place for both traditional western medicine AND holistic forms of care like chiropractic. Both serve patients in necessary ways. All are beneficial in some way.

Particularly over the past few weeks with all of us feeling the heartbreak and helplessness of the genocide in Gaza, mental health is absolutely *crucial* to overall well-being.

So when the tools I usually draw from stopped working, I knew I needed additional help.

I was super resistant to meds at first and felt like a failure. Why couldn’t I figure out how to do it myself? Why do I need help? 🙄 cringe. I know.

Starting on this med kickstarted those tools I used to use because I have more of a reservoir of energy to actually *do* those things now. See? Both can exist.

I’m not sharing with you for sympathy. I’m sharing with you for validation. And because yes, I’m a healthcare provider, and even we struggle sometimes.

According to the CDC, 1 in 5 adults live with a mental illness like anxiety and depression. You’re not alone.

I get that it’s hard to talk about and even harder to make the necessary changes, whatever those look like for you. But like. We have to. And when it’s hard, I’m here to help you find the tools you need.

Soften your shoulders. You’re not alone. You’ve got this. Promise. 💛

Ugh, stretching 🙄🫠😂

The worst, right? So many of y’all come in with your heads hanging low while you tell me you haven’t been incorporating much movement or stretching into your routine. Like I’m gonna be mad at you or worse, *gasp* disappointed in you. And omg y’all. While I totally hear you, fr fr, I promise you this literally could not be more false 😂

The stretches and movements we discuss are meant to be tailored to your personal needs in combination with what I think would really help your symptoms. If we need to shift and move things around, we will. Add or subtract reps? We can do that. Try a completely different kind of movement? Cool, I’m in. 😎

I will never, ever harbor any sort of negativity around your movement routine…because that’s not my job. Movement is deeply personal. What feels good and is beneficial for you is not the same for me or anyone else!

One of the ways we can figure out exactly what our bodies need is by getting to know our bodies better. How do we do that? Well. Movement and recovery (chiro, acu, training, massage) in a space where you’re supported is a good start. I know it’s tough because the cycle just continues in that way. AND. It’s figureoutable. 🙃

If it feels too tough to get the stretching into your routine, if you need a teammate to support you on the journey, if you want to practice the movement with someone in a neutral space, that’s where I come in. 🌻

Adjustments are only one component of treating your symptoms. I’m here to help guide you through the others that take place when you leave the clinic. Sound good? 💖
