Some days the universe pulls you exactly where you need to be.

Spent the day with my daughters and the extraordinary Artist Julio Calvillo — and what he gave us wasn’t just a gallery experience. It was a transmission. A living, breathing portal to the wisdom our ancestors carried across centuries before the first written word ever touched paper.

Art has always been the original language of the sacred. Before books. Before algorithms. Before anything — there was the image, the symbol, the story painted on stone and skin and hide. Our relatives knew something we are still learning to remember: that Art is not decoration. It is documentation. It is medicine. It is memory.

Julio’s work speaks directly to that truth. His focus is the Sacred Buffalo — the Bison — and the covenant between the indigenous people of this Earth and one of the most powerful, life-giving creatures to ever walk it. He told us the story of our grandfather. He reminded us that the Bison did not just feed a people — it was the people. Their clothing. Their shelter. Their ceremony. Their prayer.

And then he told us the number. How few remain. How close we came to losing something that cannot be replaced by anything human hands could ever manufacture.

His art is a mission. Every piece he creates is a direct act of bringing the herd back — restoring what was nearly erased, honoring what the Sacred White Buffalo represents across cultures and across time. A symbol of unity. Abundance. Prophecy. Healing.

We carry what we remember.
We fight for what we love.
We return to what is sacred.

Today my daughters saw that. And I am grateful — to Julio, to the Buffalo, to the ancestors whose voices still move through Art like wind through open land.
