CARROLL COACH SAYS HIS RETURN AS A VOLUNTEER IS BEING BLOCKED BY SUPT. SAM MOORE, III: Former Carroll High coach Brandon Landers is fighting to return to the sidelines as a volunteer, but says the district is blocking him. Despite an expunged record and a recommendation from Carroll High principal Dr. Cassandra Shelling, Landers claims he’s being subjected to an unusually strict teacher-level background check that no other non-teacher volunteer is required to undergo.

Landers resigned in 2023 following a plea deal related to a 2022 sideline altercation in Franklin Parish in which he touched the Franklin Parish Sheriff during a game-related argument in the stands.

Now serving as Delhi’s Public Works Director, Landers says the LHSAA has no objections to his return.

"I just want to use my talents to help the kids," Landers stated, questioning the "higher standard" being applied.

Rev. Sam Moore, III, says the district uses the same background checks for teachers and volunteers.
