This is truly embarrassing. This is a message to the public. Idaho is trying to reduce the amount of hours for cosmetology training from 1600 to 1000 hours because the owner of sports clip salons in Idaho and Utah wants to hire people to cut hair with a very little training. I guess they think this is in their best interest, but it’s not in the interest of the public of Idaho. Please consider getting a hold of your Idaho house representative and asking them do not allow this to pass the house.

As a Salon Owner, Master stylist and Mentor, to have someone look me directly in the eyes and insult our profession as whole was appalling. I was fighting for a local bill not to be passed. This bill would allow cosmetology students to graduate after 1000 hours instead of the current 1600. While I know some states have this requirement, hiring and training young stylists myself coming out of school, I feel like this leaves them completely unprepared. This would be an additional burden to the salons and the public if it moves forward. Regardless of your view on hours to disrespect or de-value another’s profession when you know nothing about the depths of knowledge and training it requires is so incredibly ignorant. Spot on. I do not follow what the celebrities are up to. I have not watched any of the awards shows this season. I did see this picture of Miley at the Grammys and all I could think as a long time hair stylist and an X’er who was a teen through the greatest decade ever the 80’s was YES!!!
