Yesterday at the shelter, I chose the oldest and weakest dog on purpose – the one everyone ignored. His expression stayed with me. When I stood in front of his kennel, he barely reacted. He was probably used to being overlooked. Curled up in a corner, he looked like he had lost all hope. The staff kept asking me, “Are you sure you want this dog?”

I was certain and said, “Yes, I choose him.”

When the door opened, the other dogs ran out excitedly – but I went straight to him. Then he slowly lifted his head, as if realizing for the first time that someone noticed him. I gently picked him up and whispered, “Things will get better now.”

In my arms, he relaxed and fell asleep – maybe for the first time feeling truly safe.

Give animals like this a chance.
Be kind to them.
They need us more than we often realize.
