Contrary to popular belief, winning in life has little to do with IQ, your circumstances, your financial resources, or even luck. But, it has everything to do with creating a failure-resistant brain. Every time you think a thought, feel an emotion, or execute a behavior, your neuro-circuitry changes, and the good news is you can take charge of this process,” writes Dr. Jeff Browne and Dr. Marke Fenske in their book, The Winner’s Brain: 8 Strategies Great Minds Use to Achieve Success.
After looking at the latest scientific research and interviewing many individuals, they determined eight key attributes or “Win Factors” which can be developed by anyone to help unlock their brain’s hidden potential to achieve success.
The Win Factors are (Part 2 of 2):
4. Emotional Balance
Winners learn how to pay attention to emotional responses, both in themselves and others, to gather important information and learn to work with their emotions to channel them in productive ways, instead of being blindly driven by them. At the heart of emotional balance is self-control which can be developed by thought reframing and other mindful practices.
5. Memory
Winners learn how to use old information and memories to anticipate and better understand circumstances and apply past experience and knowledge to improve future performance. Strategically utilizing memory this way allows one to imagine, simulate and predict to be proactive about the future. Winners are also good at recognizing what they don’t know and have strategies for getting supplemental information which they, then, integrate for better results.
6. Resilience
Winners understand and embrace failure and realize that it is not a predictor of the future. The ability to get up, come back, and try again determines the future. “Winners reframe failures so that they work to their advantage and recognize that when things don’t go according to plan the journey isn’t necessarily over – and, in fact, failure is often a new opportunity in disguise.”
7. Adaptability
“The Winner’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances is a defining feature of the brain itself…..The brain is surprisingly plastic and pliable. Winners embrace this fact. They take advantage of the fact that the brain keeps on changing no matter what and is molded by how they use it….This is the foundation of every single Winner’s Brain strategy and tip we offer” Brown and Fenske advise in the book. Every thought, every behavior and every emotion you have makes a corresponding change in the neurocircuitry of your brain. This real, physical, lasting change is called neuroplasticity. Neuroflexibility and self-directed neuroplasticity are powerful tools which we all have at our disposal for success
8. Brain Care
Winners exercise and take care of their brains by feeding it healthy foods, getting plenty of sleep and managing stress and anxiety. Providing the optimum care and feeding of your brain enhances all of the other “Win Factors” and gives your brain the edge it needs for success.

1. Self-Awareness
A winner’s brain has a healthy sense of self-awareness which allows them to be more efficient in every part of their life from the job to relationships. When a person knows themselves well, they’re able to relate to the rest of the world better and vice versa. A winner’s brain has a stable and consistent sense of self, regardless of circumstances, which can be developed through mindfulness practices.
2. Motivation
A winners’ brain can overcome obstacles, push through challenges, and see rewards even when they are very far off in the distance and not guaranteed. The key is to search for rewards along the way as productivity has actually been found to be inversely related to external reward after a certain threshold. “Staying consistently motivated keeps you on a steady path toward success”, the book says.
3. Focus
Winners develop the abilit attention. Nurturing and developing the powers of concentration and attention can actually change the physical composition of the brain which can translate into improved focus. Meditation and visualization have been shown to help increase focus and the ability to tune out distractions.

People travel for many reasons, including to visit friends and family out of state and to see attractions like historical sites and national parks. Summers and holidays are particularly busy for travel, whether you are going by car, plane, or train. In addition to being fun, going on a trip also has several mental health benefits that travelers enjoy. Just as you would take a day off to go to the doctor’s office, it is important to do things that are good for mental as well as physical health. Here are a few of the mental health benefits of traveling.
1. Increased Empathy
When you travel, you encounter different people, not all of whom do things the same way that you do. Encountering different cultures and ways of life can help people to have more empathy. Empathy is the ability to see things from another person’s point of view and is important to mental health because it positively impacts how someone sees the world.
2. Stress Relief
Although making a long journey can be stressful, most people intend to relax and unwind once they reach their final destination. Stress relief can mean different things to different people. For example, some people prefer to relax by renting a cabin in a remote area, while other people might consider the thought of potentially dealing with wild animals and being cut off from the outside world to be stressful. Find what is relaxing for you and seek out those opportunities when traveling.
3. Improvement of Mental Functioning
When you travel, you do things that you might not often do in your regular day-to-day life, gaining new experiences in the process. Performing new activities keeps the brain alert and healthy, which is necessary for good mental health.
Depending on where you are going, there will more than likely be some new and interesting experiences to enjoy and learn from. Continuing to learn and explore helps keep the brain happy and active.
4. A Break From Monotony
Having a routine does have its benefits; for example, having a regular sleep schedule is important for fighting fatigue and stress. However, getting in a rut for too long can lead to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Traveling allows you to break out of this rut, whether you are going somewhere for a long weekend, an entire month, or some time frame in between. Breaking up the routine once in a while boosts happiness levels by keeping life interesting.
What Are Some Cities to Consider?
One city to consider visiting is Los Angeles. This destination has plenty of craft breweries and outdoor activities both inside and outside the city. Consider watching a Dodgers baseball game while here. Find an online ticker seller for discounted Los Angeles Dodgers tickets and choose your perfect seat by using virtual stadium views.
Another city is New Orleans, Louisiana. This historic city boasts unique cuisine and jazz music and is home to an annual Mardi Gras parade.

To have a happy life, you need to prioritize physical fitness. Physical fitness is considered by most to be the most important investment in their investment portfolio.
Here are the reasons why your health is your most important investment. (Part 2 of 2)
4. Good Health Makes You a More Productive Worker
Good health is connected to productivity. If an employer has the option to hire and retain someone healthy as opposed to someone who is not, they will always opt for the healthier individual. Healthier workers have fewer sick days, use minimal sick leave, and attack their assignments with energy that sick employees cannot. Investing in your health could lead to your employer investing in you, offering you promotions and more responsibilities that can impact your financial well-being.
5. Poor Health May Leave You Miserable and Unhappy
Poor health has a negative impact on everyone’s life. When your health impacts your ability to sleep, move around, breathe, or live life, it is easy to feel irritated and hopeless. Things you once enjoyed, like traveling, driving a new car, or living in a large home, are useless without your health. When you feel sick, your zest for life diminishes. For this reason, taking care of your health today is worthwhile because you are investing in a happier tomorrow.
6. Investing in Your Health Can Save Money on Transportation
The healthier you are, the more inclined you may be to walk and cycle to places close to your home. The healthier you are, the farther you can walk and the farther you can go on your bike. All of this is beneficial, especially with skyrocketing fuel prices. Many smart devices have inbuilt counters that can help you monitor how much you walk each day.

To have a happy life, you need to prioritize physical fitness. Physical fitness is considered by most to be the most important investment in their investment portfolio.
Here are the reasons why your health is your most important investment. (Part 1 of 2)
1. The Healthier You Are, the Lower Your Healthcare Costs May Be
When you have poor health, you are not as productive, your emotions are out of whack, and all this affects how you attack life. If you don’t take preventative care of your health, you will find yourself dealing with long-term health issues that can wipe out all your assets and savings. A visit to the doctor, hospital stay, medication, and other health-related expenses can be so severe that they can leave a person financially devastated. Taking care of your health reduces risk factors and minimizes your chances of dealing with catastrophic healthcare issues.
2. More Time and Energy to Spend With Those You Love
The more you invest in your health now, the more long-term benefits you will receive. One of the most important reasons you want to take care of your health is because it gives you more time to spend with your loved ones. At the same time, as you invest in your health, you also want to invest in your family’s health. The unfortunate reality of deteriorating health is that you will be a burden on your family when you get ill. You can’t be there for your spouse, children, or even your pets if you let yourself go. This is yet another practical reason to invest in your health.
3. A Healthy Lifestyle Can Prevent Disease
Many of the diseases that people are dealing with today result from lifestyle choices instead of hereditary issues. This means that what you drink and eat mixes with other unhealthy habits and will impact your health for years. Some have turned to nutritious, fully prepared meals delivered to their home to take all the stress and frustration out of preparing healthy food. This investment in their health today puts them in a position to fight and prevent future diseases. When people purchase processed food, they are buying illnesses. So instead of spending money on medicines tomorrow, start eating healthier food today.

Emotions are a natural part of who we are and how we respond to the happenings around us. Throughout the day, we experience the varying emotions of love, happiness, anger, sadness, fear, and surprise. They are triggered by how we interpret the circumstances at hand and are constantly in flux as things change.
Despite the fleeting nature of our emotions, they can have a lasting impact on what comes next. Out of a temporary, but explosive response, we might permanently destroy our relationship with others or make decisions that derail what is most important to us. Emotions influence our thoughts and behaviors, and unless we learn to control our emotions, they will control us.

When facing a confrontational situation, give yourself time to think before you do or say something you might later regret. Calm yourself down by taking deep breaths. In highly explosive cases, it may be best to walk away, regroup, and proceed again under better circumstances.
6. Execute a win
The driving goal when addressing challenging situations or people is to aim for a positive and productive resolution. Rely on your learnings and experiences to initiate a course of action that will produce winning outcomes with mutual benefits.
