I'm Priestess Yendys, Hmt Ntrt Yendys Nefer-Atum Oluwatoyin, holistic practitioner, Kemetic High Priestess, Ancient Blends ApotheCare Founder/Owner, and plant-based products Formulation Specialist, Pioneer of the Natural Hair Care Reclamation Movement, Herbalist, and the author of Living Like A Menopause Goddess: The Chrysalis Stage.

My work is rooted in guiding women back to themselves, through health and wellbeing, nature, ritual, breath, altar work and ancestral remembrance.
I created this offering, from a deeply personal place. My own journey through menopause was not something I wanted to just “get through” or silence, it was something I chose to allow, innerstand, honor, and transform.

Halfway through writing this book, I paused.
I had invited women to gather for “Let’s Talk Menopause”, an evening of holding space, sipping tea, and sharing fruit. I came with intention, with openness, with a desire to begin the conversation.
No one showed up.
In that moment, I quietly put my manuscript away… and left it untouched for nearly two years.
Then one summer day, during an Open Streets event on Tompkins Avenue, my editor, a brother, walked in with his arms raised and said, “Hey… are we going to finish this book?”
And just like that, something was reignited.
It was a man, one of our brothers, who called this work back forth… back into motion… and into completion.

I initially started writing this book because I felt divinely called to do so. I never knew that this topic would be my divine assignment. Over the years, I also saw how often menopause was approached and expressed with such discomfort, confusion, or dismissal, especially for Black women, who are so often underserved in this area. My spirit called me to reframe this experience as what it truly is: a sacred initiation… a chrysalis stage… a powerful threshold into deeper wisdom, clarity, transformation and self-possession.

My inspiration also came from both lived experience and decades of working with women in healing spaces, witnessing the emotional, physical, and spiritual shifts that arise, and knowing there had to be a more affirming, holistic, and spiritually aligned way to navigate them.

This space, "Living Like A Menopause Goddess Retreat at Sankofa Sanctuary" and this book are extensions of that knowing. This is a space for women ready to slow down, reconnect with their bodies, align with nature, and be held in a sacred container of transformation, sisterhood, and truth.

You're not just “going through” menopause, you're experiencing a transmission of our bodies that many, many, many other women didn't have language for, did not have safe spaces and completely miss the experience of this sacred elevation.

For me, witnessing so many of you holding my book, Living Like a Menopause Goddess: The Chrysalis Stage in your hands, reading the back cover and then flipping through the pages, finding yourselves in the words, sharing conversations with me and each other... it was powerful beyond words, for me.
There were so many smiles, several meaningful exchanges, and even quiet moments of reading, and affirmations that were spoken, without words. Each person who came into the space brought their own energy, and together, it created something truly beautiful.

What seems to be standing out most for me was this:
People didn’t rush. They stayed. They connected, with the book, with the Apothe’Care, and with themselves and each other.

New Yorkers Asked to Rally Behind M/WBE Small Businesses
The Public Advocate is urging stronger support and fairer contracts for women- and minority-owned small businesses.

Ahead of Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane D. Williams outlined how minority-owned small businesses face persistent structural barriers that restrict access to funding and growth opportunities.

Williams released a report on Tuesday titled Diverse Entrepreneurial Inclusion, which analyzed gaps in city contracting and outlines policy changes aimed at strengthening minority-owned small businesses at a time when many companies have scaled back diversity efforts amid conservative pushback.

Williams said small businesses built by immigrants, women and minority entrepreneurs are a core part of the city's identity and economic makeup, including in neighborhoods across Brooklyn.

“In New York City, we have long strived to celebrate diversity, recognizing it as a strength for not only our culture, but our economy," Williams said in a statement. "Small businesses built by immigrants, minorities, and women are at the core of our economic identity in this city – but too many systemic barriers still prevent these ventures from growing their bottom line and our economy."

The report argued that expanding M/WBE participation in the local economy is both socially responsible and essential to the city’s future, especially as a new administration begins to shape its economic agenda.

Small businesses, especially M/WBEs, are at a major disadvantage when competing for city contracts, which often go to large national corporations. As a result, only about 5% of city contracts are awarded to M/WBEs, and those contracts tend to be relatively low in value, the report said.

The report also points to missed opportunities when emergency waivers bypassed standard procurement processes, including during programs such as migrant services, NYC Solves and NYC Reads.

In several cases, local vendors could have provided better cultural or community-specific services, such as higher quality food in shelters.

As the city goes under new leadership, Williams urged for funding to be restored to the Department of Small Business Services; make contract and procurement systems more efficient; increase transparency across all stages of contracting; proactively recruit and support M/WBEs with ongoing awareness campaigns; advance city legislation to improve M/WBE procurement; and press Albany to reform statewide contracting policies.

Beyond government action, the Public Advocate called on New Yorkers to invest directly in their neighborhoods by seeking out M/WBEs during the holiday shopping weekend.

“This weekend, between Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, New Yorkers will spend a lot of money – let’s work to spend it in our communities, seeking out and supporting M/WBEs as we decide, with our dollars, the kind of economy we want to build," he said.
