Your tongue is not just a muscle. In TCM, it is a direct window into the state of your organs, fluids and internal balance.
I always start every session in clinic or hospital with a tongue diagnosis.

👅 Pale tongue with teeth marks points to Qi and blood deficiency
💜 Purple or bluish tongue reflects blood stagnation and poor circulation
🌍 Patchy or geographic tongue shows yin deficiency and underlying heat
🤍 Thick white coating suggests cold damp accumulation
💛 Thick yellow coating indicates damp heat in the digestive system
🩸 Enlarged or dark veins under the tongue signal blood stasis
🌫️ Greasy or heavy coating reflects sluggish digestion and fluid retention

If these patterns appear often, support your system with:
• eating warm, freshly cooked meals
• avoiding excess cold, raw and iced foods
• chewing slowly and eating mindfully
• supporting digestion with ginger, fennel and light broths
• prioritising rest and consistent sleep
• managing stress to support liver flow
• staying hydrated with warm water and herbal teas

Ideally you would receive a full assessment from a TCM practitioner to understand your unique pattern and tailor treatment accordingly.
Understand that your tongue is a window into what’s going on within. Learning to read it helps your body return to balance.

There’s been a lot of conversation in the news this week about PFAS — a family of chemicals that also fall under endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), meaning they can interfere with the delicate hormonal systems that keep our bodies in balance.

So let’s break down where these chemicals show up and how you can reduce your exposure at home.

EDCs are found in everyday items — from pesticides and plastics to household cleaners and personal care products. Despite their ubiquity, they pose real risks to our health and the environment.

Research links EDC exposure to reproductive disorders, thyroid and immune disruption, developmental issues, and an increased risk of certain cancers. What makes them particularly concerning is their ability to mimic, block, or interfere with our natural hormones.

EDCs can affect the body in three key ways:
🧬 Block the pathway between a hormone and its receptor
🧬 Disrupt how much hormone a gland produces
🧬 Mimic hormones and trigger responses at the wrong time

While some EDCs are now so widespread that total avoidance isn’t realistic, you can meaningfully reduce your exposure by paying attention to what you bring into your home. Small, consistent changes make a difference.

‼️ Tip: “Unscented” ≠ fragrance-free. Look for products clearly labeled fragrance-free.
‼️ Tip: Use apps like or to scan products and get clarity on what’s inside.

Our co-founder has created a new home for the kinds of conversations that don’t always fit on Instagram — a space to explore womanhood, hormones, identity, and the very non-linear, lived experience of healing.

Her new Substack, Body Language, is an extension of everything we believe in at Looni: deeper understanding, connection, and care.

In her latest piece, Chelsea writes about the years she mistook her luteal-phase mood shifts for relationship problems, and how learning to track her cycle changed her entire inner landscape. It’s one of the stories that ultimately inspired the beginnings of Looni.

If these themes resonate with you, we’d love for you to join the community there. Subscribe via the link in our bio or at chelsealeyland.substack.com to read the full piece.

P.S. We don’t usually participate in the Black Friday frenzy, but Chelsea is offering something special *just for her Substack subscribers* this week — you’ll find it at the end of her newest post.

Moon marked and touched by sun
my magic is unwritten
but when the sea turns back
it will leave my shape behind.

I seek no favor
untouched by blood
unrelenting as the curse of love
permanent as my errors
or my pride.

Looni launched our first Body Wisdom and Holistic Hormone Healing workshop co-hosted with doctor of Chinese medicine & Sanu acupuncture founder.

This was an intergrative gathering to honor the body’s natural rhythms — blending acupuncture, somatic presence and circle sharing for a full nervous system reset.

Hopefully this will be the start of many more to come.🌿✨
