During the filming of "Rocky IV," Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren did indeed film a boxing scene that turned out to be quite intense. Stallone, known for his dedication to realism in his movies, suggested to Lundgren that they spar for real during one of the scenes to make it more authentic.
Dolph Lundgren, who had a background in martial arts and was much younger and larger than Stallone, agreed to the idea. However, during their on-screen bout, Lundgren hit Stallone so hard in the chest that it caused Stallone's heart to slam against his breastbone. This impact caused his heart to swell and his blood pressure to soar, necessitating emergency hospitalization.
Reports indicate that Stallone spent about eight days in intensive care, recovering from the incident. This event underscored the risks associated with performing stunts and fight scenes, even when undertaken with the best intentions to enhance the authenticity of the film.
