The next time a barber or stylist asks you what shape you want your neckline to be my advice to you would be...RUN. I love this neckline pictured. Not only because it’s my work but because it makes so much sense to me on a practical level. My philosophy has and always will be that your neckline should be kept natural. What does that mean exactly and why natural? It means keeping the shape of the hair at the nape the way it naturally grows in, not carving a round or square shape into it to clean it up. Why? A natural neckline allows you so much more time between haircuts because there is no line of demarcation between where the neckline was carved out and where the natural hair underneath and around it grows in. You might be thinking, “Does that mean it’s left all scraggly because I want to look and feel cleaner after I get my haircut with you.” It is absolutely not left all scraggly. While cleaning up a natural neckline can be subjective, it takes an artistic eye to shape it- one that can see the natural shape and be able to keep it while taking away any unnecessary hair from below or around it to give you a fresher, more polished look. Natural necklines for life🌊No exceptions! If you have any questions about this feel free to DM me and I’ll do my best to help!

The shape of your haircut matters. When Marty came in for his first haircut it was just a month after he had last had a haircut and he felt he “needed” a haircut again because it was “too full on the sides and puffy.” During that first haircut I reshaped Marty’s hair, creating something much more balanced and symmetrical. I wanted it to be more square instead of round. It suits his face better (this is true for a lot of men). When he came back 8 weeks later it had grown in beautifully. He admitted he didn’t even feel like he “needed a haircut.” He didn’t have the same feelings about it being too poofy even though it was longer than it had ever been before. Instead of his usual feeling of “needing a haircut” a few weeks after his last haircut he was now 8 weeks past his cut with me and still loving the way his hair looked and felt. I agreed 😉.
You should only need product to add a bit of texture, hold or moisture. Product should never be needed to hide mistakes in a haircut and if that’s the case then you probably need a new hairstylist. Someone who takes into consideration the way your hair naturally flows, the texture of your hair and the best shape your hair should have for your face. A beautifully blended, layered haircut shouldn’t need anything in it to work for you. Would we recommend a little product in it to add texture, volume, or hold? Absolutely. A dime size amount of DG paste or DG cream worked into your dry hair is always going to be a good idea if you are in search of those qualities when styling but as a solution to a crappy haircut that only works with product, absolutely not.
Men with thinning or challenging hair often think why bother investing in their hair. They think that their haircut doesn't matter because they don't have "good hair” so what’s the point. They couldn't be more wrong. In the right hands (ours) we will work with what you have to make the most of it. We have tips and tricks up our sleeve and 20+ years of experience to know what it takes to help it look thicker and fuller. We have specific approaches and philosophies we apply to take the attention away from any problem areas. The guys with full, thick heads of hair will also benefit from a good haircut, but if they get a bad haircut, their naturally good hair can withstand some mistakes. Those with hair troubles don't have that luxury and need the special attention and care we give with every haircut. We spend a lot of time refining our approach and practicing to make sure we are prepared to help our clients have the best hair possible🌊
If you’re getting your hair cut when it’s wet that’s a major🚩🚩🚩 When your hair dries it looks completely different. You need to be getting your hair cut dry for a stylist to be able to give you a haircut that will look great the way you wear it all day - DRY. It’s crucial to be able to see how the hair moves, flows and lays which is impossible to do when it’s wet. No one is walking around with wet hair so why would anyone attempt to cut it that way? Having a dry foundation is so incredibly important to getting a (Damn Good) haircut. We pioneered this approach at our salon and it’s the only way we cut ✨

Clients have been consistently telling me they miss us when we aren’t posting our fun and educational videos where we hold nothing back. Well your wish is our command! We’re back at it as of this morning- filming before work so we can keep our fans happy. Stay tuned because as you know we have a lot to say and we love saying it. We take a ton of pride in being able to teach men about their hair in a way they have never been exposed to it before. We do it all day everyday with our clients behind the chair. It was about time we got back to doing it for the camera so we can share our expertise and experience with the world 🌊

Everyday I wake up and am grateful for my clients. Men who through thick and thin will forever be loyal and supportive. Who understand the value of the haircut I give and appreciate our art and how it makes them feel and look. These three me are my ride or dies. Uncle Lou is missing from this picture taken this weekend but we know his flow was on point because he also was in this past week to see me😉 Thank you .sta and for always making my work look so damn good 🌊 suits you (pun intended!)

We are known for the balanced shapes we create here. This series is the perfect example of what the right haircut can do for an individual. Symmetry, balance, connection and shape are, when executed correctly, the keys to getting compliments on your hair. Swipe through to see how TRISHA at our east side salon was able to transform Michael on his very first visit last week. He had two different haircuts going on. The back had been left much too long and full for what was done on the top and sides previously. Trisha shaped the back to make sense of the length the top and sides had been cut to and the result was a beautifully balanced haircut that now flows perfectly and Michael will be able to go much longer between haircuts than he ever did before. Oh and the haircut he came in with- that was only two weeks old and clearly wasn’t working for him. He found us and we changed the whole trajectory of his flow🌊
Whenever I’m working with my clients at the salon I make sure they know how to use our (Damn Good) hair products properly in their hair so they can achieve the very same results at home- everyday- on their own. We’ve got the right products for you but without the knowledge you’re left floundering. That’s not how we roll. Follow along as I walk you through the few super easy steps to styling your flow using our (Damn Good) Day At The Beach Sea Salt Spray and (Damn Good) Hair Cream 🌊

Let’s get REAL. And by real, I mean the hair of real guys whose hair we cut, not celebrities whose hair we’ve never touched. I promote our philosophy, aesthetic and approach to men’s hair by posting pictures of real guys who come into our salons for help elevating their haircut and their look. It’s feel so inauthentic to post pictures of A-List celebrities if we haven’t actually cut their hair. Real men want to see real work done by us. Show NYC men with hair situations that need adjustments so their hair can look thicker, healthier, compliment worthy and tell me what you did to get those results for them. That’s how you gain trust and loyalty with clients.
Yesterday I spent some time creating content to share. I cut the hair of several men who needed my help and it resulted in awesome before and afters that I am excited to share with you over the next few weeks.
Jason walked in with a frizzy round shape that looks thinner than it needed to and his hair lacked moisture, a more square and balanced shape and overall blended flow. Disclaimer: I did not touch his hair before taking this picture. This is how he walked in. I shaped the sides and the top to make the hair appear more square which is a much more attractive shape for almost all men and made sure the crown where his hair is thinning and separates was the proper length to look fuller and have more coverage without looking combed over. After the haircut, I towel dried Jason’s hair calmly to keep it from getting frizzy and to get as much of the water out as I could before hitting it quickly with the blow dryer to make sure it was completely dry (so I could properly apply product and get maximum results). I warmed up a flat, quarter size amount of our (Damn Good) hair paste in my palms and literally coated the hair with the product (video to come!). The result was moisturized, smoother looking hair with symmetry, balance and a fresh take on what once was frizzy hair. But I’ll let the pictures I took speak for themselves. I pride myself on posting photos and videos of our clients and our work. It separates us from the pack

*Disclaimer: This photo was taken over a year ago before Covid changed everything.
My client Matt sent me this picture this past weekend and it was just too sweet not share. It’s critical to note this photo was not posed, it wasn’t planned or purposefully set up. My assistant at the time took it because the moment touched her and she thought it was too important to not capture. If you’ve never been to one of our salons before you should know this photo is the essence of what Fleischman Salon should always be about...a place clients feel at home, cared for and comfortable but most importantly, a place they want to to share with their loved ones because it’s been an integral part of their lives. I’m always touched when clients bring their kids (both big and small!) to share their experience at the salon with them. We’ve watched thousands of our clients kids grow up and in many cases they become second generation Fleischman customers ❤️
As a mama myself, I want my son to know the people and places we love to go- that are part of who we are and important to us as a family and Leigh and I love to take him to those spots so he can experience them through his own eyes and feel connected there the way we do. So this picture not only represents the salon at its core but it also demonstrates the value we place on our clients and the trust they hand over to us when they walk through our doors, not only with their hair but with their hearts. As a new client you may come in initially for a haircut but quickly realize our salons are so much more than just that to you

When what I was born to do collides with the things I love outside of my work I feel especially lucky. Spending time on set with my longtime clients Kev and John who I now feel lucky enough to call friends AND do business with is very special to me. The result is always magical. Tonight we sponsored Friday Night Pints and and are showing off their fresh flow going into the weekend 🌊 There’s a genuine love and respect for what we all bring to the table for each other (I give them killer hair and they help us educate the world about our hair philosophy, our approach and the products that make it happen). Check out the super fun show tonight and get in on the promo code to stock up 🌊
