During 2020, hate crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities increased 145% in the United States. This is based on what has been reported and investigated, and there is evidence that leads many of us to believe that the real number is much higher. New York City has particularly seen a horrifically violent uptick and this cannot be seen as acceptable. All of us, together, need to do what we can.
I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity by and to help . For each of us who posts or reposts, $20 will be donated by to
Each piece can help. Raising money helps with research, education, victim outreach etc. Buying from local AAPI owned businesses protects your community members from debt and poverty. Speaking out let’s people know you have their back.
and we can stand together together to make a better world. As usual, keep an eye on my stories of resources and information.

one of my very first photo shoots at
I created the artistic direction and styled this shoot too, which was always something I love doing. In the past five years, I think the imagery from this shoot has become more and more relevant. I’ve always been inspired by glamor—the type I saw on my grandma and the other old women sitting around chatting and reapplying their lipstick all afternoon. The tacky glamor of and dollz. And as someone who went to Hebrew school with a lot of level folks, I always thought of Prep as just another part of Punk. Rebellion is rebellion.

More but we’re going pre-pandemic and shooting with at the beautiful . really just holding the energy I hope we can all hold for ourselves right now. Looking at this makes me feel like it’s a warm summer day (and not like we just got out of the three-day-gray).

I’m having some very bad skin problems right now that have been effecting my self confidence. My skin has some texture in this photo, which I do enjoy sometimes, but generally during this past eight months I’ve been dealing with clogged pores, stress breakouts, and a lot of picking at things that ought not be picked. I’m trying to work up the confidence to deal with my skin again, but for right now have this instead.
I missed having a sunburn this summer so I created a light flush on myself. I made a halo around my eyes using three different pinks (blush and shadows) and a highlighter. I wanted to lighten my skin a bit too, to make it look more supernatural. I’m quite hairy in this photo, but I don’t mind 🤷🏻♀️ I was rewatching Moulin Rouge yesterday and I think this makeup would be my French courtesan look. Frizzy hair, deathly palour, and a constant drunkard’s flush ✨💕

It’s the middle of the night and you are stuck in a mansion. That may not sound like much of a problem, but right now you’re being pressed into a floor made of pure gold coins by a man made of pure Grade A Prime Beef. No. Not like that! He’s just ripped the gun from your hand, tearing the skin off your finger, and there’s a troop of people all ready to kill you—and that’s just in this room. You’re there for one purpose and one purpose only: to open the vault in front of you.
The vault is open now. A silver coin sits there undisturbed, mockingly, while you become one with the ground, but otherwise it appears empty—and then a voice begins to speak. A recorded will, set only to play for you, gives you the world.
Instinct tells you this is not a good thing, but you no longer have a choice. The world is officially your big, scary oyster. The man who knocked you to the ground now has to help you up; you pay his paycheck now, after all. The vast power is more threatening than he could ever be.
You are beaten, you are angry, you are fu***ng exhausted. But the door has opened, and the vault is dealt with. You are now (or is it still?) the treasure that needs guarding all the time.
This is my final project for the with . I decided fairly quickly that I wanted to make this a character makeup. Our theme was “Financial Constraints”. Zoey Ashe is both ends of that spectrum for me, poor as s**t and thrown into the world of the wealthy. A character from two novels written by , she is a very typical poor American and watching her win feels like watching a friend win. She is the every-man’s Eliot Rosewater: altruistic to the point of so-called madness and too smart to be safe.
My personal connection with money is strained, in a very similar way to Zoey’s. Seeing her navigate her own Alice in Wonderland-style nightmare maze gives me the space I need to see mine through. It’s not always pretty, it’s very often painful, but giving up leaves you exactly nowhere. Even if you get knocked down, have the wind knocked out of you, are chased by a group of serial killing livestreamers—what are you gonna do, give up?
