Flow Movement
As featured in SHAPE Magazine, Flow Movement® is a wellness and apparel brand created by Marlo Fisken. www.flowmovement.net
The Flow Movement® brand was developed by dance / fitness expert Marlo Fisken. Inspired by yoga, athletic conditioning, acrobatics and a lifetime of dance, the movements are born out of a desire to combine these forms into something fresh, balanced, and diverse. Flow Movement is both an apparel line and a series of progressive fluidity drills for all levels, often involving flexibility training, f

I put this in my stories, but I’ve never had more responses of laughter and joy, so I’m leaving here to live on the timeline.
Yes, this is in public. One lady saw me, stopped, and pulled her dog 🐩 🐕 to walk in a different direction. Clearly, I’m a danger to normality.
However most people just casually glance as they pass. Out of respect, they don’t stare, but I do see a shift in their physiology. Their posture perks up, and sometimes I even see a little wiggle pass through their body.
When we ‘model’ what free movement looks like- it reminds others that they too can let their bodies expand and express.
I moved w/o music for about 45 minutes. Once nature got loud I had to respond.

One of my favorite books about dance as a creative practice is actually a book about writing.
Julia Cameron has authored dozens of books on the creative process through the writer’s lens. In ‘The Right to Write’, everything she says about writing can be applied to any creative process. As a mover, I found myself enthusiastically nodding and making sounds at how accurately she portrays our resistance to creative practices— even when we love them.
If you feel that you “don’t have time” for movement, you “lack the skills” for dance, or you are afraid of imperfection—I highly recommend you let the wisdom of this book soak into…and move you.
Have you read a book that isn’t about movement, that you found highly applicable to movement practice, dance, and creative physicality?
What was it?
Gibney dance space in NYC.
I love making videos, but don’t love the editing process. It wasn’t until I very recently learned that you can voiceover directly in iMovie (derp) that I did something with these.
Enjoy this slowly progressing basic Floor Flow loop. It’s likely to make you spine and shoulders feel nice 👌🏻
I heard your requests. This Flowbility taster is all levels and is intended to help you sense and create a sensation of length in your neck, chest, and waist.
Free Spinal Wave Upgrade! 🐍🌊👍🏻 This video shares some tips for articulating and sensing the reverse wave/tail-initiated/bottom-up wave. I can go on about spinal wave details for HOURS (days even...), but even a few minutes can make a difference. This video is focused on feeling and visualizing the origin of the wave (pelvic movement).
A few things to note:
*For maximum benefits, wave anytime anywhere. Even micro-waves are great for you. You don’t have to latch onto your p***c bone (like I show in the video 😂)
*Any part of the wave that feels jerky, ‘vague’, or that you want to rush is where you should slow waaaay down and add more internal tension. Move like you had an immobilizing thick rubber suit on... but still really wanted to wave.
*If you short-circuit and revert to the top down wave 🔝, take a breath, and return your focus to the motion of your tail and p***c bone🔂.
*You might also enjoy imagining that you have a broom 🧹 in your crotch and you are sweeping the floor real good 😉. Enjoy!
Once upon a time, in the not-so-distant past, I had an idea to teach flowing movement loops and demo some creative variations on them in about 6 minutes. Even though I usually failed to make them exactly 6 min. long 🤫, they are still one of my favorite video creations✨ The vids show how easy it is to take a few minutes to flow. You just need a bit of space, a bit of music, and a little bit of time. No special warm-ups, no special clothes or equipment. Just get on the floor and DO IT. The video here is an excerpt of Six Minute Session #20. I have a BIG SALE on all full video collections through tomorrow night (March 27). SAVE 25% 😲 with code LETITFLOW. link in profile.
Curious about what Almog Loven is bringing to Boulder April 12-14? Check out this video.
Almog is also an experienced practitioner and the international ambassador of the Ilan Lev Method.
The Ilan Lev Method is an alternative massage therapy designed for all ages and occupations. The method addresses issues concerning physical disabilities and injuries, resolves body-circulation issues, relieves pain, skeletal and joint problems, and more.
In the session, the patient's body is gently moved, in a manner that creates a rich and cleansing dialogue between the practitioner and the patient. Movement returns to parts of the body where communication was disturbed or blocked due to injury, pain or stress.

A little more about why you should take the Shared Levitation workshop Feb 1-3, 2019, with Marion Sparber and Alan Fuentes-Guerra.
I first met Marion and Alan in Berlin this past March. I signed up for a professional contemporary class at Marameo (which meant that I way possibly going to be in WAY over my head, but hey, gotta dive in sometimes). I had no idea who was teaching or what to expect.
Within the first few seconds, I was sure I loved Marion’s delivery and athleticism. She had me moving much faster than I had in a long time. The patterns were full of circles, swings, and touching yourself—all things that I savor. Before long, we were passing though speedy athletic Flying Low-style floor sequences and I was sweating through my two pairs of pants.
I later became familiar with Marion’s work with her partner, Alan, and their spirited approach to contact improvisation. Boulder is a movement hub, but we certainly don’t have anything like what these two offer. So,
Why take this workshop?
1. It’s going to be super-duper fun and educational! Even if you don’t consider yourself a dancer, you will be supported by your teachers and the awesome people who will attend.
2. You will learn ways of moving that you won’t get in a typical dance class. For my USA people, coming to Boulder for a few days is much cheaper than flying to Berlin to soak in some of Europe’s best contemporary exploration.
3. If you LOVE FLOORWORK, and you are interested in upping your floor skills, especially in a more athletic direction, jump on it. These two have worked closely with some of the most influential contemporary floor-workers, ever.
4. Confidence in working with other bodies is really important, especially for movement teachers. Since we can only have the experience of existing in our own body, working closely with others through contact improvisation helps develop empathy, sensitivity, and an understanding of our differences.
5. As with all workshops I host, you are very likely to learn exercises and concepts that rejuvenate your training and teaching, no matter HOW you normally move. Plus, we get to hang out : )
caught a glimpse of one of the slow movement exercises from the Floor Flow Teacher Training, Boulder. This exercise may not look like much is happening, but the experience can be quite deliciously intense. If you are ready to slow down, sense more, and develop a deeper connection to your movement, there is still room in the Portland Floor Flow Oct 25-28. Register www.flowmovement.net
