Beyond Makeup

I know it’s a bit easy to lose sight of anything positive right now given what atrocities are happening in the world. But I thought I’d share a little story that might help brighten your feed a bit (long caption incoming, lo siento). 🥹

Around this time six years ago, I decided I needed to change my life.

At the time, I was working a corporate HR job in NY— waking up before sunrise, long train rides in and out of the city, eight and a half hour days, five days a week. I was exhausted, burned out, and trying to convince myself that I had “made it” because I worked for one of the biggest companies in the world.

I didn’t know how I was going to leave — I just knew I couldn’t stay. So I started taking makeup classes at night to build a launching pad to get me to where I wanted to be.

Yesterday, I got up just as early as I used to. But this time, I was heading to be on set as a professional makeup artist for a shoot for global brand. The studio was two blocks from my old office, so I walked my old route in the frigid early morning, and I couldn’t help but cry on the sidewalk in front of my old office building. I was just so overcome with the emotion of the full-circle moment.

We ended up working a 14-hour day yesterday. I didn’t leave until 10pm — and somehow, I still felt energized and grateful to be there. ✨

Life can change quietly if you listen to yourself, keep moving, and have the faith that everything will work itself out. I’m going to keep doing that — and bring others with me when I can. 🧡
