Peace everyone! So NYC is officially allowing Salons to open back up! This doesn’t mean everyone should flood to the salons 👀! At Ancestral Strands we have some safety protocols to adhere to, both the Clients and Braiders, in order to service you! We are a private salon suite and will only be taking one client/day! Bookings are opening up tomorrow at 12pm for the month of July! All safety Protocols will be added onto the website for all to view! We are preparing for the opening and look forward to seeing you all again! 🌱🌱🌱We’ve missed you! Oh and we’ll only be able to give you air hugs, unfortunately 😉! 🤗🤗🤗💚🌱

Little fun fact about my wonderful ‘Bring Back The Bush’ documentary many of you may have discovered me from: these are pics from a deleted scene we shot in Brooklyn. We filmed a time lapse of making this wonderful hairstyle on me as we spoke with about the history of how we went from using braiding techniques to conceal rice in our hair on the plantations, to mapping out escape routes using certain hairstyles, to us embracing our afros as a form of resistance, to the modern day implications of black women having their hair touched and why it was important for white people to destroy our identities through our hair as a means of controlling us. But the scene was deleted (along with every other pro-black thing I said throughout many other scenes) because it would have been way too powerful and black for a documentary about body hair. Which is ironic because black people are indigenous extensions of this earth and our hair, regardless of where it grows on our bodies, is absolutely divine. We also discussed how the aversion to body hair on women is rooted in transphobia and anti-blackness. But this was all too much for a documentary about body hair. I absolutely spoke up and said I am being censored but they didn’t want to include the black empowerment stuff. Nevertheless, it’s still a fu***ng amazing doc and I got my hairy p***y out on telly cause you WILL see this beautiful black body even if you won’t talk about all the reasons why it’s TRULY beautiful. Being black and working in media/entertainment is hard. You wouldn’t even know the half. And maybe one day I’ll talk about it more. But for now, let’s get into this BLACKNESS
Who can relate??? 😩😩😩
