www.thebeautyofitis.com is a blog created by NYC celebrity makeup artist, Katey Denno, after years of being asked by models, coworkers, and friends to talk more slowly so they can write down the information she just went on and on about.
Back in 2018, my friend, videographer friend, + I got together and planned out a clean beauty makeover show. We chose 4 friends who graciously let us come into their home and film me giving them a clean beauty makeover, and then Victoria put together this great trailer from the episodes footage we shot. We put so much into it, and were so excited for what we knew would come. I was certain a network would pick it up. How could they not? Everybody loves a makeover show, and this would be introducing them to the world of THE BEST products on the market.
I had meetings with a few big companies who wanted to fund it and produce it, but, then Covid hit and everything halted.
So much has changed since we filmed it. Some of the brands I showcased are no longer in business. Many have changed their packaging. LOTS of new brands have entered the market, and what’s most important to me for my work: the technology and product formulation within clean beauty has become SO FREAKING GREAT; there’s rarely a time I’d suggest someone choose a product outside of the clean beauty industry because the world of clean beauty can do it all (except waterproof. But I’m sure that’ll come at some point).
At the time we filmed I wasn’t as focused on sustainable/eco-friendly packaging, but now it’s such a big part of what I want to always share with you.
Maybe at some point I’ll make time to start shopping it around to networks, but for now, I just wanted to share this with you. Thanks for all the work you put into it, , and thanks to our models: , , the founder of , , and . 🧡❤️😘

I haven’t much felt like posting about makeup or skincare since last week’s terrifying ruling on abortion rights. I just saw that shared their stance and commitment to aiding and abetting those ilia employees who chose to end their pregnancy while living in a state where safe abortion services are now illegal, and that they’re running an internal donations drive and matching contributions to + . Bravo and thank you to you, Ilia’s founder, my friend of over a decade, , for trusting that women know what’s best for their bodies, their families, and their lives. This pretty pic is an image from a shoot I did with them recently to show off this new palette containing their multi-sticks and highlighters. I used this palette on this gorgeous woman’s lips, cheeks, and lids.
If you zoom in on the top of the inside of the palette you’ll see the words ‘We believe in better’. So do I, for beauty, and for our country.

Today is an extremely dark day for human rights in the USA. We MUST vote these conservative judges OUT in November by voting in local elections. It’s the only way!!!
I worked in Planned Parenthood for many years in my early 20’s, and in a women’s health clinic that provides abortion services in my late 20’s. I met THOUSANDS of women who did not want to become mothers at the time they became pregnant, and because at the time, our country did not restrict women’s right to choose, they were able to safely end their pregnancies. As of today’s ruling, it’s expected that 1/2 the country’s states will ban abortion. This means extreme hardship in obtaining a safe pregnancy termination for 1/2 the country. This doesn’t mean abortion will cease in those states, it just means it’ll become less safe, more expensive, and pregnant people will have to find child care, money to make the trip, and take time off work in order to travel to pro-choice states.
No matter what the reason, it MUST remain a personal choice whether to remain pregnant. Not the choice of the conservatives controlling our government right now.

I shoulda taken more pics of the wonderful when she was in my makeup chair, but… the lighting for photos wasn’t great in the hotel room. I took a lot of fun videos outside during the shoot that I can post just as soon as the clothing line collab of her bestie (recognize him in picture 2?) launches next month.
I kept her makeup pretty simple, as you can see, but that glowing skin is a great combo of the Yarrow Facial Oil from and a super thin application of . On her lids is Eyelights cream to powder shimmery shadow in ‘Flare’, and on her lips and cheeks I kept it easy and simple since we were running around outside in the sun all day for the shoot, and patted on a light touch of ’s multi-stick called ‘Courtesan’, and then added a little sheer gloss over lips. Did you know Alicia is vegan and into clean beauty? 💝
And for those of you wondering- Alicia is just as great as you’d hope she’d be. Even more so!

What a total treasure the beautiful is to work with. I loved putting her in this subtle green eyeshadow, thick, little winged eyeliner, and fully bronzed face. It feels like the perfect way to welcome summer with your makeup. 💚

I 🖤 painting on this dreamy face. This was before leaving for last night’s event. I decided to have fun with the liner + give it a higher outer edge point of lift-off than what i generally do. I love what it did for her eyes and for the overall look. A little quirky and not so expected.
