Strand Test Time! 🎨

Our client Jack is wants creative color with dramatic silver blonde results. To test his hair prior to booking the actual service, we did a strand test using lightener + 10, 20 & 30 volume developers. The higher the number = the stronger the developer 🏋🏻‍♂️

Strand tests are essential when attempting a big color change. We perform them prior to coloring virgin or damaged hair, or when looking to dramatically lighten.

Strand tests to ensure that the hair will respond properly to the processes planned, to determine its suitability for a given process, and to verify specifics such as processing times, and possible results. We also test the hair’s porosity + elasticity to ensure the hair can handle the processes planned and will not incur damage or breakage.

Luckily for Jack, his hair responded perfectly, and lightener nicely with the 10 volume (always better to be able to use a lower volume developer). Stay tuned for Jack’s dramatic hair transformation!

💇🏼I only book one-on-one appointments where you are my sole focus.

😷 Mandatory masks for all- need a mask? Just ask! We have plenty.

🥽 We use disposable capes, towels and chair covers, and discard after each client. Also additional PPE (shield + mask) for me.

🦠 Air purifiers at my station + throughout salon

🛋 🌿 New outdoor waiting area on our cozy corner patio where you can relax outside while your color processes if you’d like.

👩🏼‍💻 Free color + cut consults via Zoom to help reduce trips to the salon for clients.

✨Second Star is officially back! ✨

Celebrating our first official day back behind the chair with the Frandy girls! A new Pulp Riot purple ‘do for mom Claire + fresh swingy summer bob haircuts for her awesome girls Elizabeth & Charlotte 💇🏻‍♀️💇🏼💕

Even though we could have opened last month with Phase 1 here in Queens, I decided to wait a bit more to make sure our local numbers kept trending in the right direction. We proudly follow all of the NYS required health & safety protocols for our salon, as well as a few extra precautions, such as disposable capes, towels, chair covers and limited one client capacity.

The path to reopen was a roller coaster of excitement, anticipation and some last minute obstacles of the electrical + plumbing variety, but happily we rose to the occasion and am so thrilled to be back doing what I love 💗
