I haven’t posted to the grid in almost a year! There’s probably some post that explains why people abandon main for stories only content… I don’t care. I have been thinking a lot about my work lately though. About the people that sit in my chair, the parts of their lives they share with me. It’s really cool. Sometimes I just like to leave the experience as it is and not kill the vibe by turning it into a content opportunity for me. Sometimes it feels really natural and a smooth transition. Like it would be a crime not to take the picture. Here’s a few of those. The q***r babes of now.

Endings or beginnings or just a continuous flow of rich experiences… Life is wild and often hard to predict. Yesterday I saw clients in NYC for the last time (or is it?). Making space for new experiences and new directions to open up to me. Moving to NYC was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and many people thought it was impulsive and maybe even irresponsible. I don’t know those people anymore 🤷🏼♂️👋😙. A little over a year ago I made a different choice and it has also been great. Come visit me in Hudson! I’m still processing the experience of saying goodbyes to people that I’ve known for many years. People whose lives i’ve watched unfold. Being a hairdresser is a sacred and wondrous profession. I’m glad I made that choice too!
So here’s a portrait of me at Hairstory studio on my last day taken by a dear client and friend of over 12 years that has sat in every chair I’ve had in NYC.
Thanks to all of my clients for making it awesome and being a witness to my life unfolding as well.

sometimes I miss seeing people’s whole damn face. Here’s a real pretty one on Amelia.

Such a joy to spend time with . Swipe for the makeover!
Fun fact that many don’t know is that when a person gets pregnant their hair stops shedding for the duration of the pregnancy. Then after giving birth all that hair starts to fall out! It can be really terrifying 😱 but hair grows back! So I shaped Kayhan’s hair to match the new growth and breathe some new life onto this beautiful head. 💓💓💓 @ Hairstory Studio

I met J when I first moved to NYC. She was my hair model for an interview at my first salon job here. I’ve been shaping these hairs ever since
I feel so lucky that I spend my days with creative, interesting, funny, sensitive people. Some have become friends beyond the chair and some it feels like seeing an old friend for an hour every few weeks (or months). Time well spent, all the same.

The need for play and experimentation is so real for me. It has been a game changer to ask people to donate their heads and time for me to do this, the kind of experimenting I wouldn’t do on a paying client. Taking my time, mixing differently, applying differently. I’m always pleased with the results and so far all of my volunteers have been super excited about their new wearable art. But not having the pressure to please or create FOR someone else allows for a special kind of magic.
Thanks to Julian for donating his head and time.
If you’re interested in volunteering DM me ✌️👨🏼🎨 @ Hairstory Studio

I love client . I love seeing my clients enjoy what I’ve created for them. To live in it. I love getting to know people and building relationships, going on journeys with them. Veronica has been trusting me with her hair for about 9 years now!
I’m so lucky and honored to have many clients that have been with me for lots of years.
Of course getting new clients is important but keeping them is essential to success. ✨🙏

swipe➡️ for before. Trust is something I don’t take lightly. It takes a lot of courage to sit in a hairdressers chair and let them try to make you look how you want to be seen in the world. Thank you 🙏
