Based on reports from early 2026, the Trump administration has engaged in direct military intervention in Venezuela, resulting in the removal and detention of Nicolás Maduro and the installation of a new, US-cooperative interim government led by Delcy Rodríguez. While the stated goal was to promote democracy and alleviate the suffering of the Venezuelan people, the administration has explicitly stated that a primary objective is for the United States to 'run' Venezuelan oil production, claiming the nation's oil as 'our oil.' Key details regarding the situation as of February 2026 include: the removal of Maduro and continued power structure, with Maduro captured and in US custody on drug-trafficking charges, and key figures from the previous administration installed as new leadership; control of oil and resources, with the US controlling revenue from Venezuelan oil sales to ensure it is used for the country's recovery and to repay US companies for past asset seizures; offshore banking accounts, with Venezuelan oil revenues funneled into US-controlled accounts in Qatar to prevent creditors from seizing the funds; and criticism of the operation, with critics arguing it is a form of 'resource imperialism' and bypasses constitutional requirements for congressional approval of military actions. The administration has stated that US oil companies, including Chevron, are expected to 'rebuild' the Venezuelan oil sector. While some supporters celebrate the end of the Maduro regime, others argue that replacing one set of leaders with a US-backed, but still largely entrenched, political class does little to establish a truly democratic government. This is the same game plan that will be implemented with the help of Israel in Iran. It's never been about democracy; it's about access to oil and other resources.
