My vintage electric hot towel steamer. I use this to steam towels to provide a classic old-fashioned hot towel "barber shop" shave. Try it once and you'll be a regular.

From our reviews on Yelp:
Frank has a few "bold face name" clients from business, sports, music and fashion that all have offices in the neighborhood where La Scala is located. You might recognize them. If you do, be cool about it or be banned. Frank is very protective of his client's personal privacy --- Jimmy C

(Frank) has letters from governors, mayors, and a number of other dignitaries adorning the walls, so he's not exactly your "typical" hair stylist. The other great thing is that the shop opens very early (like 7:00AM). If you and your colleagues want to build in a morning meeting while one or more of you get a haircut, there's room to hold several people. The shop is convenient to Penn Station and the Broadway and Lexington Avenue lines, so its a good rally point for people coming for an early morning meeting. ---JGC

You cannot get a better men's haircut than here, and the price is stunningly affordable. Its one fo the best kept secrets in New York.
Frank Scala, the proprietor, brings the charm of an old-world Sicilian barber, but with the styles you can find in GQ or Maxim. You get a shampoo and then Frank puts to work with scissors and comb ONLY, the way only old-world master barbers used to.
Everyone I've referred to La Scala has called me to thank me and they've all become regular customers. There is no better barber -- and certainly nobody better at this price -- in New York.

Saw his classic barbershop facade on the mezzanine floor of this grand pre-war on 5th Avenue many times, and always wanted to stop by. Never heard of him, didn't know he was a legend. I walked in, didn't have to wait, got the best haircut in recent memory, and a nice trim, and more importantly got to know Frank and his cars. If you do have to wait enjoy the multi-generational collection of Pl***oy magazines. --- Eyal N.
