New Illinois Law Bans Sale of Cosmetics Tested on Animals More than 30 countries have banned cosmetics testing on animals, and while the practice hasn’t been banned in the U.S., Illinois is now the third state to enact “humane cosmetics” legislation. The new law takes effect Jan. 1, 2020.

I am always amazed by the articles written such as:
Hilary Duff Spills The Secret To Her Strong & Healthy Hair.
It goes on and on about all the products she uses. Looking up her 'natural' product for strengthening her hair
Mended Sea Strengthening enhancer $30 for a little spray bottle. The ingredients are:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Potato Starch Modified, Linum Usitatissimum
This is not what you want to put on your hair if you want healthy hair!
Compare this to my favorite product HairOlicious which is Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil. Simple. Healthy Hair and Skin moisturizer.

One of the things that drives me nuts is the junk in beauty products.
I like to stay up on what products are recommended in MSM and I always check ingredients. A little bit of something that's not great is not a big deal, but when the main ingredients are silicons, polymers alcohols, etc. OMG!!!!
This is so very common. USA Today's top rated product for deep conditioning hair has the top ingredients of:
Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Methyl Gluceth-20,
Dimethicone is a silicon-based polymer it traps everything under it. It is also a non-biodegradable skin and eye irritant. Remember if it's on your hair it's on your pillow and then gets on your face.
Cyclopentasiloxane is also a silicone that coats your hair and is commonly used in cosmetics. This is not good for the health of either your hair or skin. It is also classified as an endocrine disruptor, based on evidence that it interferes with human hormone function and human fertility by the European Union.

The best way to look great is to be healthy. Many commercial products destroy the health of your hair and skin over the long run. Your hair might look good for awhile when you coat it in silicon polymers but it doesn't last.

This is a good article in Be Well by Britta Aragon. Britta has her own CV skincare line which is free of the awful products found in many commercial products, but, it's very expensive. My favorite product is HairOlicious. It's available on Amazon and is very reasonably priced.

Great article about how important a balanced ph is for your skincare products. Too alkali is very bad while anything more than a little acidic isn't good either.
One of the things this article doesn't touch on is how products you use on your skin are absorbed by your body. This is one of the reasons I use HairOlicious. It also has the added bonus of being ph neutral, and is also great for minor skin irritations.

The other fantastic thing this article is that it covers exfoliants. Excessive exfoliation can be harming your skin and result in premature aging.

This is one of the reasons I really like to use natural products on my hair and skin when possible. Sure we all take off our makup before going to bed but how many of us wash our hair first? If it's on your hair it gets on your pillow and then on your face.
