EXCITING ECO NEWS!

The world’s first 100% recycled plastic bottles have finally hit the hair industry, and they’re ours! Organic Colour Systems will be the first professional hair company in the world to produce colour bottles and caps made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR). That gives our salons another major and meaningful point of difference. And the good news doesn’t stop there.

Organic Colour Systems shampoos and conditioners will follow suit too; because actions speak louder than words when reducing the environmental impact of packaging.
"Highly decorative packaging full of virgin plastics, wraps, sleeves and cartons are commonplace in the hairdressing industry", OCS founder and Managing Director, Raoul Perfitt says.

“The OCS philosophy has always been, ‘the planet beats pretty every time’. Minimising packaging and using recycled and recyclable materials, these are things we’ve been passionate about from the start and an important factor we keep in mind when we design and chose packaging.”

Can OCS become plastic free? We’re working on it. For now, the best we can all do is repurpose materials wherever possible. That is far better for the environment than using virgin materials, especially non-recyclable ones.

“It’s alarming, but 99% of professional colour companies use aluminium tubes for their colour,” Raoul says. “Those tubes are lined with plastic in such a way they’re virtually impossible to recycle. That’s simply unacceptable to us.”

We’ve all seen reports about the lack of current recycling capabilities around the globe. Images of rubbish the public believe has been ‘recycled’ piling up in landfill sites are disturbing, to say the least. Organic Colour Systems supports a ban on non-essential single use plastic and is serious about supporting recycling initiatives.

“Recycling needs to become a commercially viable industry,” Raoul says. “If we don’t get behind companies investing in recycling, like the one making our new PCR bottles, investment in the infrastructure for a robust recycling industry just won’t happen.”
Every bit of our new bottles has been used for something else before. Organic Colour Systems is proud to be helping reduce the piles of plastic rubbish polluting our planet.
And because quality is imperative, our post-consumer recycled plastic is sourced locally and food-grade approved.
