Tell me about it…
It’s that time of year! So I want to know- do you or have you attended fitness conventions?
Feel free to tell me why below!
I went to quite a few conventions when I first started- but I’ve never been able to attend the big summer conventions! (I’m always booked up!).
I miss conventions in NYC! They all seem to have relocated.
Have a favorite convention? Feel free to give them a shout out below!

Some great news…
Last month the American Medical Association began to clarify its stance on BMI and encouraging doctors to become aware of its limitations.
Swipe through for some info on the history of BMI- spoiler alert: it’s never been a great metric!
Keep swiping for tips on how to deal with BMI as a fitness instructor and a list of my resources!
At the end of the day- most of us are not doctors, nutritionists, dietitians, and maybe not even personal trainers.
Let’s focus less on an ideal body weight and more on overall health and wellness!

Does this happen to anyone else?
I frequently find that people like to think of the group fitness room as their personal workout space.
I’ve noticed it even more lately… and I think there’s a few reasons.
Here in NY many gyms opened up before the group fitness schedules restarted and folks have gotten used to the space being available.
The class numbers at many facilities are still a bit lower than they were 4 years ago.
And- everyone is working out in their own headphones and frequently are so actively tuning out everyone else that they don’t notice what’s happening- or respond the first two times I talk to them.
I’m guessing I’m not the only one?
So tell me what you do in the comments below, if you’ve noticed it, and if you’ve noticed it more in the last couple years

Let’s talk about making verbal cues that help all learning types!
Most people are a blend of three learning styles:
1. Verbal learners- those who learn by listening and follow verbal cues well
2. Visual Learners- those who learn by watching and observing
3. Kinesthetic Learners- learn through sensation, feeling and touch
Most of us are a blend of all three to varying degrees, but by using specific verbal cues you can tap into all three. This can be an extremely valuable tools when hands on work is not an option for our kinesthetic learners or to continue supporting visual learners when you move around the room!
Swipe for some great key words to use to tap into these groups of learners!

Check out this amazing post from .om …
This year our fearless owner asked us to post our mantras for the year.
“You are enough” was a phrase that took me a while to connect to.
At first my ego said- I don’t want to be just enough. I want to be good.
But that’s not what it’s about. It’s about allowing yourself the grace to acknowledge you are already everything you need to be.
It’s not about being the best.
It’s about being enough.
The best is an external opinion.
Enough is an internal acknowledgment.
So here’s my reminder that you are already enough.
Do you use mantras? Feel free to share yours below!

How about some fun facts on your Friday…
Did you know that we have around 650 skeletal muscles in the body?
The exact number varies depending on sources and how muscles are grouped together.
There are also vestigial muscles that are present in some people but not in others!
Do you need to know all of the muscles to be an effective instructor?
NO!
Does a basic understanding of large muscle groups and their roles help create effective programming for your classes?
ABSOLUTELY!
Do you like this fact? Let me know below! Should fun fact Fridays be a thing?
