Shepherd Lee, you have completed us. Born at 32wks + 1day at 3lbs 14oz, and going home at 35wks + 5days after 25days in the NICU. My first born, my water breaker. The first to enter the world and last to leave the hospital (I think you just had a crush on the nurses). You shared a placenta with Henry, and you were always tucked down low in my belly, often hiding your face during ultrasounds and as scrunched as could be. Since you’ve entered the world, you’ve made it your mission to rectify that, with legs and arms always breaking loose of your swaddle and the biggest longest stretches I ever did see. My son, I fear you might be our most independent boy and while I treasure that strength, I will always be here for anything you ever need. You are courage embodied, decisive and true. Even at only a month old, I know you will conquer everything you ever set your mind to, and I will be here to cheer you on every step of the way. You share your daddy’s middle name, and a line of those with “Lee” as a middle name before him. And true to your name, you shepherded the way into the world for you and your brothers. You were the first to make me a momma, and as I celebrate my first Mother’s Day with you and your brothers home in my arms, my eyes can help but fill with tears of gratitude for the extra 8weeks on this earth I get to cherish with you three thanks to you deciding it was time to come early. I will never forget the heartbreak of leaving you in the hospital alone and I think a part of me will always hold onto you a little extra tight for that. I love you son and I will forever cherish you as my first baby boy.
