Today commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas—more than two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, family, and the continued journey toward equality. It’s a day to honor those who came before us, reflect on history, and celebrate the strength, creativity, and contributions of Black Americans.
For me, as a Black woman entrepreneur, mother, and someone who has been digging deeper into my family history and heritage, it’s also a beautiful reminder of how far I’ve come and how much I’m building for the generations that come after me.
