Don’t think I’m weird but I’ve been thinking about your hair a lot lately….

I know mine is dry and I *know* what to do with it so i'm worried that maybe you've been feeling a little lost with your own?

Feeling a bit static-y?
Brittle? Crunchy?
Tangled?

You need:
* A good hydrating shampoo or conditioner (maybe both)
* A deep conditioner once every 3rd to 4th shampoo
* To drop the terry cloth towel for towel drying and switch to an old tee or microfiber
* A light nourishing oil to top it all off

I have a very particular set of skills.

Skills I have acquired over a very long career.

Skills that make me a nightmare for people who want you to get your hair done every 6 weeks like clockwork.

1. I give thorough chats about your hair, routine, skill, and expectations.

I get to know what you're willing or wanting to put into your hair on a daily basis. This can mean products, stying, shampoo, effort,…whatever.

2. I have multiple haircut options that allow you to book extra time if you want. This time is dedicated for dry cutting before the shampoo and after the blow-dry to see how the hair falls & giving you a custom look.

Soft, diffused, & textured hair looks softer & lasts longer. This will also help to hold your shape longer as the hair grows out.

3. I’m mindful of the "blunt" lines.

Blunt lines & harsh shapes quickly outgrow themselves, requiring more frequent maintaining. But likewise, over softening can expose "holes" in the hair.

I make sure the overall shape has great structure, while also softening the spaces that need it most.

Got questions about any of these skills?
Drop them below. You never know when someone else is having the same problem an maybe we could help them out too.

Just let your hair air dry once and see what happens...

There's a good chance your texture isn't actually what you think it is.

You wouldn't believe how many times I've helped discover wavy or even curly hair on people who thought there hair was stick straight.

1. Do this on a day you have nothing going on. You are probably not going to love your hair the first time you air dry it plus you don't want any major surprises on a day you have something planned.

2. Don't try to force your hair into waves or straighten it out. This first time just simply let it be and see what happens.

3. Before you rinse the conditioner out, make sure all major tangles and knots have been worked through.

4. Towel dry it with a tee shirt. Terry cloth is not your friend when air drying,

5. If you need to brush it out, try and use a wider tooth. My preference is to place it with my hands and use my fingers and a bit on leave in conditioner to detangle any clumpy places.

6. Now the hardest part…Wait for it too dry.

Tag me in your results if you decide to try this. I'd love to know if you found any surprises in your natural hair texture or any crazy growth patterns.

I have one rule as you leave my salon....

You're not allowed to check yourself out in the rearview mirror on the way home.

I refuse to be responsible for any accidents when you can't keep your eyes off yourself.

How do I customize your haircut to give you longer time in between appointments?

Here are 3 different ways, that all involving cutting your hair dry:

1. Before shampoo or before color if I'm removing a lot of length or heaviness.

2. Before shampoo, in clean/dry hair, if there's a spot that's really really bugging you. I can be more precise to how you wear it.

3. After a wet cut and after style, to remove extra heaviness and add refine harsh lines.

Knowing what kind of spaghetti your hair is…even if you're gluten free...

This is how I explain conditioners and treatments to all my guests.

Did you think this was a helpful description or are you just hungry for breadsticks now?

I would never use hairspray to hold a look like this WHY? And WHAT would I use?

1. The what… I prefer a texture spray.
It’s flexible so the hair still moves around instead of looking glazed into place...

2. The why… It’s lighter weight and less sticky which means being able to go longer in between washes.

3. Bonus: It ables fine hair to uhold style easier and to look fuller.

Added Bonus: this beautiful lady is my Momma. Everyone show her some ❤️ please. She’s my day one 1 and has always been a willing model (even when I cut her hair too short in beauty school and then tried to wrap it in a perm)

I REALLY effed up my roommates hair in beauty school.

I'm not sure if it's the worst I've ever screwed up someones hair?
🤷‍♀️ {I've been in the game for nearly 20 years, mistakes are going to happen.)...
but it's definitely one of my favorite stories from "behind the chair."

When I was in school, my roommate had come in for some color.

- Did she need or want color?
Not really.
But I needed the credits to graduate.

Maybe schools have changed, but back then, there was very little "color theory."
We were basically thrown at clients with some swatches and told to try it out, make some mistakes...

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

So here I am with a dark haired client who doesn't want color and a color swatch book that I don't know how to use....

Black streaks as lowlights made the most sense, (this was the early 2000's, okay?) so I found the blackest swatch I could.

I could bore you with color theory right now but to keep it simple:
the swatch was 1AB,
1 = Black
AB= Ash blue
and ash blue on her hair ='d PURPLE

NOW, I will say.... it was EFFING AWESOME!!!
The best mistake i could have made.
LUCKILY, she was laid back and loved it.

It may not be the WORST I've messed up someones hair, but it was definitely the first color flop I’d had. I was just lucky that her and I could laugh about it and that she rocked that look.

So you're wondering when you should start covering your grays?

- Are they bothering you?

- Is it more difficult to style your hair with more grays than before because of their texture?

- What kind of maintenance do you want to put into your hair color?

- How often do you want to visit the salon?

- Do you also like to have highlights or some other type of dimensional color in your hair?

These are all questions I would expect to go over with you when determining what type of color will work best for your lifestyle and budget.

Myself personally, I prefer a low maintenance look that will blend my grays instead of covering them. I see my colorist every 2 months and I let her take the reins on what my hair needs. I could probably go every 3 months or definitely every 10 weeks, but I love my girl and it's fun to get taken care of for an afternoon.

These are the ladies:
We could tell you the story behind every name too. We love our little plant babes.

However, we’re mediocre at best at taking care of them.

Please, please, please send us any tips you have!!

We have (3) palms - Elisabeth, TONG, and Miss Frizzle
(1) Pothos - Bean
(1) Money Tree - Jsusan (pronunciation; Susan with a J. The J is silent.)
(1) that we have no idea what she is but she’s always on the verge of death & then keeps coming back- Pokie; Ironically named that when she was new and full and healthy but apparently the name we chose gave her a complex.

Sorry to break it to you but you're probably using the wrong stuff on your hair.

Moisture? or Protein? or both? both and a trim??

After big hair changes, a trim isn't always enough for our ends.

I love...LOVE...love switching up hair color,

But that's only possible when proper care, product, after care, and instruction are given.

I guess what I'm saying is....If you need a hair nerd...I'm your girl.
