Love it or dread it, it’s here!
Personally I love this time of year. I love the crisp feel in the air and the cozy sweatshirts beside a warm fire.
One thing I noticed the most on my way into the salon today is the color change in the trees. The reds in particular! Which got me thinking, fall colors are on the horizon! 🤗
With the addition of auburns, chocolates, and reds always comes the question of “how do I keep my color from fading??” When the temps drop, our hair starts to lose moisture. So if you’ve found yourself reaching for the hand lotion more frequently, it’s a pretty good indication that our hair is already losing moisture too.
The easiest way to combat color fading is to make sure your hair is properly moisturized. A weekly mask will do the trick. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy process, I have a 1-3 minute moisture mask that fits perfectly into your morning routine!
Next time you are in, grab yourself a bottle so you won’t have to think twice about your hair drying out through the winter.
Besides gorgeous hair, this is what you can expect at Carrie Keller Hair Studio...
-Honesty... whether we're talking about a maintenance schedule that works best for your busy schedule, or how many visits it will take to reach your desired goal, you'll always get an honest, professional opinion with no pressure.
-Transparency... let's be real: we all have a limit to what we choose to spend at the hair salon - so discussing service pricing isn't something that's made taboo or awkward.
-Healthy hair without compromise... your hair will never look it's best if it's not treated with the utmost care. Service & product recommendations are always made with the integrity of your hair in mind.
-Clients before ego... it's impossible to be highly skilled at everything. If it's outside my area of expertise, I have no problem recommending a stylist who's a better fit... because I believe you should have the hair of your dreams- even if it's not crafted by me!
Hair loss after recovering from Covid-19 is something we are talking about often in the salon these days…you want to know if it’s normal, right? Or more importantly, will it stop?
According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, people who experienced a high fever, emotional stress, and or simply became very sick with Covid-19, may experience noticeable hair loss.
The technical name for it is telegenic effluvium..This generally happens 2-3 months after a significant illness and can last 6-9 months before the hair starts to end its shedding.
So what can you do in the mean time? First and foremost…try your hardest not to stress about it. An increase in stress can also cause hair loss! So, shift your focus and trust that it IS temporary and will one day soon be back to normal. It won’t last forever.
To give your hair the best growing advantage, focus on good nutrition. The right amount of protein and key vitamins are essential for healthy hair….Healthy hair always starts from the inside out.
Lean protein
Iron
Vitamin D
Vitamin C
Zinc
Folic Acid
Vitamin B12
You can get these through your diet or supplements. Consider focusing on these tips long after your hair returns to normal as well for an amazing head of hair full of shine!
This color reminds me of ginger snaps!
A sure sign that the season is changing is colors shifting to a bit darker.
An over lightened summer color can be quite a shock when transitioning to darker tones for the winter.
I suggest during September/October adding a few low lights into your color as a subtle transition period so when you are ready to do dark in November, it’s less of an adjustment.
Or keep your summer blonde through the winter, that’s totally ok too! It’s been a rough year , do what makes you happy! 😊
Here’s a quick 2 minute habit to get into once a month for healthier, quicker, and easier blowouts.

What would make you spend $450 on a hair dryer?
I get asked all the time if the Dyson is worth the money. 🎯 FULL DISCLOSURE 🎯… I did not pay full price for this dryer. I was presented with a great price from the company and felt compelled to jump on it.
I am 2 months into working with my new Dyson and here’s what I love about it…
1. It’s super light. Weighing less than 2lbs, it’s the lighter hair dryer I have ever held and this one came just in time for all the tendons in my dominant arm to decide they needed an immediate break of use. So if you have shoulder or wrist issues, a light weight dryer is ideal.
2.It's super quiet. I can carry on a conversation with my clients without yelling at each other which is a huge plus. However, if drying your hair is your 5 minute break from bickering kids, you may be disappointed 😆 (but seriously, the struggle is real)
3.The diffuser attachment is hands down the best diffuser I have ever used! If you have curls you will be very impressed.
So tell me, what would a hair dryer have to do for you to make it worth $450?
Maybe this particular dryer isn’t ideal for you, but we can discover what attributes are right your needs.
Welcome to my Studio!
These days I am more thankful than ever to have my own private studio.
More and more people tell me they feel so comfortable getting their hair done during the pandemic because they know they aren’t sharing the space with anyone else. “I wouldn’t be here if you were in multi chair salon” they say.
That’s a huge advantage! There are other advantages too. Like for instance, your own private Hairapy session. No one to eavesdrop on the conversation. And no busy buzz of a hectic salon, allowing you to slow down and relax.
For me, my favorite thing about being in a suite is that I have full control of your experience from start to finish. I know what’s been touched and what’s been cleaned and can keep you as safe as possible.

So I hope by now its obvious to you that I love my job, but what you may not know is why I love this job so much. Here are 3 reasons why...
1. I get to make women feel empowered. We all know that when your hair is on point, everything goes smooth in your day and we are more productive. Creating a cut and color that looks and wears great throughout the whole 4-6 weeks between appointments makes me feel so good knowing I can give women that boost of confidence until I see them again.
2. I get to touch peoples lives in a unique way. I’ve always said that what I do behind the chair has little to do with the actual hair. It’s the connection, the validation, the time out from every day madness...all of that experience fills me up. Letting me into your personal space is a huge act of trust, and one that I don’t take lightly but appreciate fully.
3. I truly believe I have the best clients on the planet. And knowing that makes me excited to come to work each and every day. I’m blessed to have a career that has never once felt like work. I don’t get the Monday blahs and I just love that.
Not sure know how I got this lucky, but I walk in and out of work each day smiling because my guests truly light me up
Thank you for letting me be a part of your world today and every day 💜

A question I get asked frequently is should I wash my hair before getting it colored?
I’m not sure where it came from but most people believe that their hair should be dirty when getting their hair colored...the dirtier the better.. with the idea that somehow dirty hair takes better to color.
The truth is excessively oily hair can block the color from absorbing into the hair evenly and can affect the way the hair color takes if you are getting a color touch up. Also, if you are getting a blonding service like balayage or highlights or even adding low lites, we use the natural fall of the hair to determine where to lay the color. If your hair is too dirty, it won’t lay in that natural fall.
The real reason that you shouldn’t wash your hair the day of a color service is because when you wash your hair you can make tiny cuts on your scalp which can cause irritation when the color is applied. Washing 24-48 hours before your service is perfectly sufficient for a great color service.

How often should you really be getting your hair cut?
Recently a guest was having this conversation with her girlfriends and she found that they have very different haircut schedules. Why is that?
There are lots of factors that go into determining how often you should get a haircut. Here are some of my recommendations.
~Maintaining your current length or style 4-5 weeks
~Growing your style longer 6-8 weeks
~Regular curling iron, flat iron, or hair dryer user 4-6 weeks
~Natural air dry, non heat user, and not maintaining a specific length or style 8-12 weeks
~Severe damage that you want to gradually remove without getting a big cut 4-5 weeks
Of course these aren’t all situations so if you need some guidance on your specific hair, just ask and I’ll be happy to give some advice.

Are you using the right size curling iron/wand for your long hair style? Maybe you’re not quite getting the look you want to achieve. Here are some tips and what you can expect from different size irons.
Choosing the correct size barrel can make all the difference in the look you want to achieve.
In simple terms...
Larger barrel ~ soft, understated look
Smaller barrel~ more volume and texture
*When using a larger iron (1 ½”- 2” barrel) you will get more lazy beachy waves, a slight bend in the hair and little movement and teture overall.
*When using a smaller iron (¾”- 1” barrel) you will get springy curls, lots of bend in the hair, and tons of movement, texture, and volume.
*If you are looking for something in between, go with a 1 ¼“ barrel. The iron I used in this photo was 1 1/2”
There is always a right tool for each look. Choosing the correct one will ensure you get the look you want. Still need help? I’d be happy to help you determine what iron is best for you.
