Upcoming Saturday color appointments!!

My best friend sat in my chair yesterday for the first time since giving birth. I looked at her and instantly said why does your hair look so much more red? She had noticed it too. Upon inspection, I could easily see the line of demarcation that showed just about the right amount of new growth since baby was born. Now let me be clear, this woman does not color her hair and never has. (I mean with this beautiful natural ginger color, who would?) You can see the lightness of the new color coming in. I was so elated to see the change and was happy to explain WHY this was happening.

Did you know that after your body goes through any type of trauma (such as birth, chemo, surgery), it is very common for your hair to change! Color, density, texture, even tolerance.

Your hair color can change after giving birth due to hormonal fluctuations that occur after delivery, which can affect melanin production and potentially cause your hair to appear slightly darker or lighter than before pregnancy!

Hair texture can even be affected. These hormone fluctuations cause the hair follicles to act crazy, potentially resulting in changes like increased curl, frizz, thickness, or even a straighter appearance compared to your pre-pregnancy hair!

Now, this is normally always temporary. As time goes on and your body goes back to a harmonious balance, your natural color/texture tends to return.

I’ve seen postpartum texture and density changes, but this was my first time seeing such a drastic color change due to delivery. Hair science continues to blow my mind, every single day.
