Me with about anything 🥹 parenting has so much out of our control aspects and one thing I know that helps me feel in control (and relaxed) is cleaning the house. It’s something very concrete with an almost immediate outcome.

Taking time to slow down to just connect and relax is also something to be in control of. A mind shift though from busy and a beautiful earned one at that. ✨

Breastfeeding During Ramadan 🤍🌙

Can I fast and continue nursing?

The answer is yes, it depends on your body, your baby and wellbeing.

If you choose to fast while breastfeeding, here are some supportive tips:

✨ Hydrate generously (water, coconut water, soups, milk).
✨ Prioritize nutrient-dense foods—protein, healthy fats, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
✨ Don’t skip your pre-dawn meal —include protein + fiber to help sustain energy.
✨ Rest when possible.
✨ Monitor baby for adequate wet diapers, contentment after feeds, and normal weight gain.
✨ Watch your own body for signs of dehydration (dark urine, dizziness, headaches, fatigue).

Some parents notice little to no change in supply. Others may see a temporary dip, especially if hydration or calorie intake is low. If supply decreases, increasing fluids, calories, and frequent nursing/pumping after breaking your fast can help.

Covered doesn't mean accessible. BCBS OK tells families that breastfeeding support is available but many families quickly learned qualified lactation/breastfeeding/health care is nearly impossible to find because BCBS OK refuses to contract with private practice providers.

What is an IBCLC? An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the highest-level, internationally recognized healthcare professional specializing in the clinical management of breastfeeding and human lactation. They provide expert, evidence-based care for complex issues like latching, oral restrictions, pain, low supply, navigating returning to work, and infant weight concerns. We go through a rigorous certification process. We recertify every 5 years with many hours of continuing education requirements. It doesn't stop there we support families with mental health, advocate for paid maternal leave and research human milk.
This petition is about holding profit-driven insurance payers accountable and demanding that they provide the serveries they assure members are available.
