Throughout my career, the most asked question by clients is, “Why did you become a massage therapist?” I am certain my answer has changed over the years, but two things remain: I absolutely love the work, and I love helping people.
A little background about me: at the age of 13, my gymnastics career came to a halt when I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis of the right femoral head. In addition to physical therapy following surgery, I was encouraged to consider massage therapy as a form of treatment to relieve muscle tension and stimulate blood flow in my body. By the time I was 19, I had received my first total hip replacement, and by the time I was 23, I was having my failed hip replacement replaced. Over the course of these ten years, I was very fortunate to have been introduced to an exceptional bodyworker; Rebecca Gutersohn (Adams), who single-handedly helped improve my quality of life through her massage therapy technique known as Neuromuscular Therapy. The combination of my positive personal experiences with massage therapy and Rebecca’s intuition which saw me as an individual who possessed the ability to impact people’s lives, lead me to become a Registered Massage Therapist in 2003.
