A few weeks ago, we gathered our team together & asked them to look at something — Marcia’s empty station. She had cleaned it out before she retired to Arizona, ready for her next chapter. I wanted to point out that empty space wasn’t what Marcia left behind.
What she left behind is in all of us that knew & worked with her.
Over 35 years with Garbo’s, Marcia built something much bigger than a chair & a mirror. She built a legacy of positivity, grace, & genuine care for everyone around her. Through every challenge life threw her way, she showed up with a smile. She kept that light on, day after day, affecting everyone who walked into our salon with her warmth & spirit. As younger & younger stylists came in around her she chose to be a special part of their experience instead of becoming isolated by them. She became “grandma” to Clair & then many more to follow.
We are so lucky to have veteran stylists on our team like Marcia & others that can not only mentor our younger staff with hair but life itself.
Veteran staff that have had clients through every stage of life from birth & every important day in their lives & some even to their passing life.
This is one of the very unique & special things about our profession.
Marcia knew this as well as anyone & she chose to shine her light of positivity & playful silliness on her clients & on us.
This is what we’ll remember — the fond memories, the way she made us feel, the resilience she showed us.
In our meeting I compared her to Dolly Parton who had just passed in the way she left the world a better place through her music & her heart, Marcia left our salon better through her presence & her humanity.
She was our Dolly.
