A peer reviewed study in The Journal of Urology compared culture testing to MicroGenDX NGS in 69 chronic UTI patients, and the results were telling.

The study showed:

1. 19 patients tested culture-negative, while NGS found pathogens in 17 of them. This helped validate patients' experiences with hard data where standard testing found nothing.

2. Culture found an average of 1 pathogen per sample, while NGS found a median of 3.
When multiple pathogens are present, extra discovery power can lead to more effective treatment.

3. Antibiotic resistance guidance was mismatched in 44 of 69 cases. Relying on culture alone yielded incomplete guidance on which drugs to use, fostering a negative impact on treatment outcomes.
