I share this meme often because it’s one of the most important aspects of “autism awareness.”
Since Drake was diagnosed the people I love and respect the most are the ones who treat him as they would a typical child. They speak to him, even when he doesn’t appear to notice. They talk to him, even though he doesn’t respond. They treat him with respect, ask questions, and try to educate themselves. Trust me, he knows too. He is fully aware of who treats him like an equal and who doesn’t.
People who look past him awkwardly...be prepared for me to do the same to you. I can let it go the first few times, but if you continue to treat him like he isn’t there and don’t make getting to know him a priority...then guess what? You are no longer a priority to me. ✌🏻
