Growing a business is one thing. Inspiring the next generation to build one of their own is something we’ll never take for granted.

This week, Ashley and Augusto had the privilege of welcoming an incredible group of students from Passport to Leadership to our El Paseo boutique for an immersive look behind the scenes at The Body Deli.

For more than 25 years, our family has handcrafted fresh, raw superfood skincare right here in the Coachella Valley. Founded by Margaret Clark and David Parker, The Body Deli was built on the belief that nature provides some of the most powerful ingredients for healthy skin. During their visit, the students explored our collections, experienced our products firsthand, learned about our ingredients, and discovered what it truly takes to build, operate, and continually evolve a family-owned business.

One of the most meaningful moments of the afternoon came as Ashley shared a quote that has become part of our family’s story:

“You never know when a setback can become your next setup.”

That message isn’t just something we say, it comes from the very beginning of The Body Deli.

Our co-founder, Margaret Clark, spent years working as a cosmetologist. Over time, the harsh chemicals she worked with every day severely damaged the skin on her hands. What could have been the end of her career became the beginning of something entirely new.

Instead of giving up, she combined her love of cosmetology with her deep passion for plants, nutrition, and nature’s healing ingredients. That setback became one of the inspirations to create The Body Deli, a company dedicated to fresh, handcrafted skincare made from real botanicals.

Today, more than 25 years later, that same philosophy continues to guide everything we do.

Watching these students ask thoughtful questions, explore the products with genuine curiosity, and imagine what’s possible reminded us why sharing our story matters. We hope they walked away knowing that every successful business starts with an idea, grows through hard work, and often begins with a challenge that someone chooses to overcome.

A heartfelt thank you to Leadership Passport for spending the afternoon with us and for fostering tomorrow’s leaders through experiences like these. We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to Visit Greater Palm Springs for connecting us with this incredible opportunity.
