Congratulations Coach Juan on challenging himself again on the mats. Great job bud. Also he was a huge help with coaching many other members. Such a great time for so many first time competitors. They all did extremely well and proud of each one of them. An overview of this weekend. Remember to take time to enjoy the journey stay focused. Sometimes progress is farther along than you know.
A moment to ponder…
Train with intention. Look for opportunities to improve and refine every time you step on the mats.
Relax. Enjoy the journey.

REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
Expectations and the nuance of reality.
Expectations:
“I am good at this, so I should be equally good at that.”
False.
Some things transfer. Some things do not. Success in one area does not automatically create success in another.
“I or my child should be as good as so-and-so.”
Possible.
But not helpful.
“I have been doing this for months. I should be much better and much further along.”
Everyone says this at some point, including many of the people you look up to.
First Reality:
There are many stages of continuous development. Each stage is competing for the attention necessary for growth.
It is almost impossible to significantly develop in one area without necessarily reducing attention in another area.
Something always has to give in order for any particular thing to improve.
While evaluating yourself or your child, take into consideration other areas of potential progress.
Maybe technical skills improved.
Maybe confidence improved.
Maybe discipline improved.
Maybe focus improved.
Maybe resilience improved.
Don’t compare yourself or your child to others who are in different stages of development.
Compare yourself or your child today with what has been learned.
Compare today’s effort with yesterday’s effort.
Compare today’s understanding with yesterday’s understanding.
That is where real growth is found.
And that is how we measure progress.
