Soft light.
Thoughtful placement.
Hair that feels calm again.

A lot of stylists are stressed about social media because theyโ€™re following advice from people whose results donโ€™t match their goals.

Most stylists donโ€™t actually want to be content creators, influencers, or performers.
They want full books.
Consistent income.
Longevity.
Balance.
Pride in their craft.

I can vouch for that โ€” Iโ€™m one of them.

But weโ€™re often told to follow advice that prioritizes ๐™‘๐™„๐™Ž๐™„๐˜ฝ๐™„๐™‡๐™„๐™๐™”, not ๐™Ž๐™๐™Ž๐™๐˜ผ๐™„๐™‰๐˜ผ๐˜ฝ๐™„๐™‡๐™„๐™๐™”. And thatโ€™s where the disconnect starts.

So we post constantly.
Follow the rules.
Use trending audio.
Edit, delete, repost.
Watch others grow faster.

Itโ€™s not that youโ€™re bad at social media.
You might just be taking direction from people who are building a different kind of career.

A reminder, my friends โ€” social media is a ๐™ˆ๐˜ผ๐™๐™†๐™€๐™๐™„๐™‰๐™‚ ๐™๐™Š๐™Š๐™‡.
Itโ€™s not your whole business.

Iโ€™ve built a successful, sustainable career as a stylist and a salon owner โ€” and I didnโ€™t do it by ๐™Š๐™‘๐™€๐™๐™๐™Ž๐™„๐™‰๐™‚ social media. But I did beat myself up for years thinking I wasnโ€™t posting enough, wasnโ€™t polished enough, wasnโ€™t doing it โ€œright.โ€

The moment I realized I was following advice meant for influencers โ€” not stylists โ€” everything shifted.

Now I use social media
I post once or twice a week.
I share what aligns with me and my brand.

And I spend the rest of my time doing the things that actually grow my business.

Build the career you want โ€” not the one someone else is selling onlineโœŒ๐Ÿป๏ธ

I see these posts constantly.
Screenshots of text threads.
โ€œHelp โ€” what do I respond with?โ€

And while I could help you craft the perfect reply, what I actually need to tell you is this:

These screenshots arenโ€™t just about this client.
Theyโ€™re a window into where your business is vulnerable.

Pricing being negotiated.
Policies being challenged.
Availability being pushed.
Corrections being argued.
Entire conversations happening over text, on your nights and weekends.

Thatโ€™s not a communication issue.
Thatโ€™s a ๐™‡๐˜ผ๐˜พ๐™† ๐™Š๐™ ๐™Ž๐™๐™๐™๐˜พ๐™๐™๐™๐™€.

This industry teaches us hair โ€” not business โ€” and most of us learn the hard way, through trial and fire. Iโ€™ve been there. Many of us have.

But hereโ€™s the truth, whether youโ€™re independent, commissioned, brand new, or 10+ years in:

That means:

โ€ข Your pricing is non-negotiable โ€” period
Your availability is what it is โ€” no justification required
Your cancellation policy is enforced every time
Deposits protect your time
Waivers protect your work
Correction policies are clear before the service, not after
Extensions, transformative color, and high-risk services require signed expectations

When a client pushes against those boundaries, itโ€™s not a text battle.

There are systems and apps that allow communication to stay within the business โ€” not your personal phone โ€” so youโ€™re not spending days in emotional back-and-forth over text while trying to live your life.

Your job is to service clients.
Not to negotiate, justify, defend, or emotionally regulate adults through DMs.

The right clients respect structure.
The wrong clients test it.

And protecting yourself doesnโ€™t make you unkind โ€” it makes you professional.

So when youโ€™re asking, โ€œHow do I handle this guest?โ€
The answer isnโ€™t the response to the text.

Iโ€™ve discounted my services before.
Likeโ€ฆ really discounted them.

I thought I was being smart.
โ€œI just need to get people in the door.โ€
โ€œIโ€™ll raise my prices once Iโ€™m busier.โ€
โ€œPeople like deals.โ€

What actually happened?

I made no money.
I felt anxious all the time.
And I started questioning my worth instead of my math.

Hereโ€™s the part no one warned me about:

Discounting doesnโ€™t just train your clients โ€”

Because once youโ€™ve given it away cheaper, suddenly:

โ€ข charging full price feels uncomfortable
โ€ข pushback feels personal
โ€ข and every โ€œnoโ€ feels like proof youโ€™re not worth it

Even when the value is there.

And the scariest realization of all?

Some of you arenโ€™t just making less โ€”

High product costs.
Long appointments.
Over-delivering to โ€œprove yourself.โ€

Run the math.
A lot of stylists donโ€™t โ€”
because if they did, theyโ€™d see it.

And hereโ€™s what changed everything for me.

When I stopped discounting and just communicated clearly
when I treated my clients like adults and myself like a professional โ€” everything shifted.

I told people the truth:

โ€œThis is an amazing salon.
Youโ€™re welcome to stay here.โ€
โ€œIf you want to come with me,
Iโ€™d love to keep taking care of you.โ€

No coupons.
No guilt.
No begging.

Not only did almost all of my clients follow me โ€”

Clients who had been watching.
Clients who wanted to sit in my chair but didnโ€™t feel comfortable before.

Thatโ€™s when it clicked:

Professionalism attracts.
Clarity builds trust.
Discounting builds confusion.

If youโ€™re slow right now, I get it.
Post-holiday panic is real.

But instead of discounting your services:

โ€ข offer express options that take less time
โ€ข run clearly labeled model calls while youโ€™re learning
โ€ข add value instead of cutting price

Your product can go on sale.
Your ๐™๐™„๐™ˆ๐™€ ๐˜ผ๐™‰๐˜ฟ ๐™Ž๐™†๐™„๐™‡๐™‡ ๐™Ž๐™ƒ๐™Š๐™๐™‡๐˜ฟ ๐™‰๐™Š๐™.

Busy doesnโ€™t mean profitable.
And survival pricing will keep you stuck longer than being slow ever will.

Iโ€™m not judging you โ€”
Iโ€™m telling you this because I lived it.

It brought reflection.
It brought healing.
It brought clarity.

Iโ€™m leaving 2025 saying ๐—ง๐—›๐—”๐—ก๐—ž ๐—ฌ๐—ข๐—จ.

Thank you for changing my perception.
For teaching me how to take the hits without letting them take me out.

Thank you for reminding me that perfection is wildly overrated.

I reached a point where healing and reset werenโ€™t optional anymore.

They were necessary.

So many of us push instead of pause.
We perform instead of listen.
We ignore our bodies and our minds
until they force us to pay attention.

Burnout is not a badge of honor.
Itโ€™s a stop sign.

I saw that sign more than once last year.

Carrying the pressure to perform
to prove, to keep up, to stay โ€œonโ€ โ€”
in a loud, performative, overstimulating world
wore me down.

It wore me out.

So in 2026, Iโ€™m choosing ๐—š๐—ฅ๐—”๐—–๐—˜.
Iโ€™m choosing presence over noise.
Iโ€™m choosing ๐—ฆ๐—œ๐— ๐—ฃ๐—Ÿ๐—œ๐—–๐—œ๐—ง๐—ฌ.
Iโ€™m choosing healing and reset over โ€œmore.โ€

Stillness takes effort
but itโ€™s worth doing.

If this year stretched you,
if it forced you to slow down, reassess,
or let go of who you thought you had to be โ€”
youโ€™re not behind.
