October 2024 Linda’s 2nd year Locd with 62 locs

I took down this hairstyle my client wore for a 5 week period. I began her loc journey February 2022 with instant Locs. She began her journey with 62 Locs. A local stylist in Vegas had not maintained her roots during a palm roll twist style with a holding gel. I only use products that will not lend to build up over time like the stiff gel lacking moisture and shine I saw on my grandmothers Locs. Her roots are soft and coily and I maintained her Locs last October. , , , , ,

I have had my 98 locs for 5 years now my loc anniversary would be 07/05/2025 they surely grown with me.

Unlocking dreadlocks is the process of undoing locs (also called dreadlocks or locked hair) so that the hair returns to a loose, unloc’d state with a fine tool and a lot of patience.

Unlocking dreadlocks be interpreted as a rebirth of sorts, or a reflection of inner change, or even just the next creative or liberating step in your journey. Unlocking may be done as a ritual, with prayer or intention.

It can take hours to weeks, especially with mature locs, and requires patience and gentleness to preserve as much hair as possible. So far I’m on week 3 of combing out my 98 Locs.
