Pictured is my haft-seen table which is always decorated with the 7 S’s. It’s so meaningful and a traditional ritual.

My 40th Birthday (February 6th) was special and I am so grateful for my family, those who care about me and really I am so thankful for my life. I love my age and will never hide it. There is a real innate wisdom and magic that naturally unfolds as you age and I will say I feel it more than ever. So many cycles in my life at 40. The single mother working multiple jobs and putting herself through school, the people pleaser always putting everyone first, the sensitive and scared girl and now the Powerful Goddess who realizes how every cycle was a valuable lesson even the most painful ones. I am traveling the road of destiny. I carry Maman Mahin with me always and through everything. My mother's mother too Mary Sue...I see the higher power in every situation because of her even the painful ones like missing my Jack-Jack. I grow and bloom through it all.

I look forward to bringing my dreams to creation and continuing this gorgeous journey. ❤

I planned on wearing thigh high heeled boots but my broken toe had other plans…rude. 🥴 That broken toe comes from getting a lost dog back home so it’s really fine. ✨

Yalda Night, a celebration of winter solstice also known as Shab-e Yalda or Shab-e Cheleh in Farsi is one of the most ancient and celebrated events in Iran.

Every year, on December 21st, the last night of fall, Iranians around the world celebrate the longest and darkest night of the year, the VICTORY of light over darkness, arrival of winter, and the renewal of the sun on Yalda night. Good prevailing over evil.

Yalda night is a time when friends and family gather and stay awake all night long enjoying a fine dinner.

Food plays an important role in the Yalda night celebration and it is for sure the delicious part of it. So in this night, setting and designing tables, drinking, eating dried nuts, and fruits like watermelon and pomegranate are so common.

The red color in these fruits symbolizes the crimson hues of dawn, the glow of life, and invoking the splendor of Mithra.
It was used to put these items and more on a korsi. (A type of low table with a heater underneath, and blankets were thrown over and around it which people sit around).

Storytelling, making good wishes, reading Shahnameh (The epic book of the great Persian poet, Ferdowsi), and reading poetry (especially the poems of Divan-e Hafez) is also practiced in Yalda night. Everyone makes a wish and opens Hafez’s book randomly which is believed to be an interpretation of your wish.

The ancient Persians built fire on sundown of this night and kept it burning until they see the rays of the sun.

Yalda night is not just the longest night of the year, it is also the eve of the birth of Mithra, goddess of light, who symbolized goodness and strength on earth.

Ancient rituals are to stay awake for most of the night, lest misfortune should befall on you , and gather together until evil is gone till the light shines again and goodness prevails with light’s victory at dawn with Mithra’s birth.

Our senior dog slipped out today (wind blew door open) and we can’t find him anywhere. His name is Jack-Jack. He is almost deaf and very shy. He is 100 percent an indoor dog.

Once it's completely melted and cooled, bury it. Thank yourself and the higher power for the release. Next wash your hands in cool water with pink salt.
