🕯️ Today, on National Overdose Awareness Day, I want to share a personal story that highlights the importance of understanding the risks associated with substance use. This isn't about mental health or addiction, but about raising awareness of the dangers that can unexpectedly impact anyone.

Last night, I learned that today marks National Overdose Awareness Day. It's a day that holds deep significance for me, as I lost someone dear to me - My Andrew - to an overdose involving Fentanyl and Xylazine. Andrew believed he was taking Oxycontin, but the tragic reality was different.

Xylazine, often referred to as "tranq," is a tranquilizer used by veterinarians to treat horses. Due to a lack of regulation, it has found its way into dangerous drug combinations, like the one that took Andrew's life. The mix of Xylazine and Fentanyl intensifies the risk, making overdoses harder to treat, causing painful withdrawal, and sometimes leading to dire consequences.

Despite having Narcan on hand, Andrew's situation was complicated. Xylazine isn't an opioid, rendering Narcan ineffective. Additionally, he was alone, without anyone to administer aid when he needed it most. He was aware of the risks and even had fentanyl test strips. However, the nature of “pressed” drugs the fentanyl can be clustered in the pill and unless you dissolve all of it you can miss it.

This serves as a solemn reminder that overdose doesn't discriminate. It can impact anyone, regardless of their circumstances. Before making decisions involving substances like co***ne, Adderall, Xanax, ketamine, or even ma*****na, it's crucial to evaluate whether the potential risks are worth endangering your greatest asset - your life.

Let's remember Andrew and all those we've lost to overdoses by spreading awareness, educating ourselves, and supporting those in need.
