Detoxification Breakdown: Phase 1 vs Phase 2 and Why We Need to Support Both Phases The term detox has gotten very trendy in recent years. We’re constantly being exposed to ads for things like “a five day juice cleanse to detox your body” and “try this product to remove toxins”. But are these programs and products actually effective? Isn’t that what our liver is for? Wh...

Think of your liver as a bathtub. Phase 1 is the process of filling the tub up (with the intermediates formed from the toxin breakdown and the free radicals that are formed). Phase 2 is the process of draining or removing those intermediates and free radicals out of the tub.  
 
If the tub is filling up faster than it can drain, the tub starts to overflow aka all of those toxins and free radicals are recirculated into your body. 
 
This is why it’s so important to support both phases of detoxification.
