What is LED Light Therapy?
You may think that the photos of celebrities awkwardly wearing their LED masks look a bit silly, but you shouldn’t shrug off this trend so quickly. The tech behind these devices might surprise you.

Let’s get all the science stuff out of the way first. LED therapy, or Light Emitting Diode therapy, basically involves a bunch of little lights that send out different wavelengths, or colors, to pe*****te the skin at varying depths to create energy for the cells. Depending on the wavelength, the treatment can have differing effects. For example, red lights are often used as an anti-aging treatment, while blue lights focus more on acneic skin.

This technology was originally developed by NASA, where they used the lights for plant growth experiments and pain reduction. Now we see this same tech finding its way into our spas and social media feeds.

Does LED Light Therapy Work?
The short answer is: yes. Given its history with NASA, it’s undeniable that LED therapy comes with a bit more legitimacy.

🤔 Foundation is good for the skin. Unfortunately, not really. Foundation can actually aggravate those breakouts you're trying so hard to cover up. Foundation acts as an occlusive, something used to "close up" or "block." The purpose of the foundation is to sit on the surface of the skin and stay there. This means your foundation can actually cause congestion, especially for oily skin types. So, if you've got a breakout and you're using a heavy foundation, consider skipping the cover up for a few days and letting your skin breathe. It'll thank you later.

It's possible that facials may help bring your skin's impurities to the surface, but a regular facial routine should leave you looking clean, clear, and breakout free. 🤔 After a certain age, SPF is pointless. Don't go putting away that SPF just yet, there's still plenty of time to ward off sun-induced aging. Protecting your skin on a daily basis allows it to repair itself from past assaults. You'll want to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50. Use it on top of your face cream or choose a moisturizer with SPF.

🤔 Skin should feel tight after washing. Nope. Your skin should feel clean and supple after a wash, not tight and dry. If it doesn't, your cleanser is too harsh. Harsh detergents can increase the appearance of fine lines and rob your skin of its natural oils. They can even trigger those dreaded breakouts.

🤔 Moisturizer applied at night must be labeled "night cream." The ONLY difference between daytime and nighttime moisturizer is that the daytime version *should* offer sun protection of SPF 30 or greater. Your skin is repairing itself and producing skin cells by the second whether it's day or night. So, it doesn't matter if the sun is up or down, you can always help your skin. Feel free to use your day cream at night but make sure to boost it with SPF in the morning 😃
