Why does all that hair come out in the shower ?

Your hair goes through three phases in its life time.

🍃The first phase 80-90% of your hair is actively growing from the scalp.

🍃The second phase 5-10% of your hair is detaching from the blood supply and will shed out in 2-3 weeks.

🍃The final phase is the phase where your new hair is coming through your scalp and the hair that was in phase two is now shedding out. 

In order for this phase to complete you need to stimulate the scalp which you do during your shampoo process.

When we shampoo our hair we are stimulating our scalp which then releases hair that was ready to go. If its been a few days since your last shampoo its very common to feel like you are losing more hair since that hair may have needed that last push.

This is all very common and losing those hairs doesn't mean you have hair loss it actually means a new hair strand is coming through which means a healthy scalp. 🤩

If your hair is coming out in clumps or you notice bald spots that is cause for concern and many factors could be playing in that role and I recommend seeing a doctor or dermatologist to find out why that is happening.

What causes breakage ?
😣Stress
Everyday we deal with stress it’s practically impossible to not stress with current life events but over stressing does affect our bodies and our hair.
🥵heat damage
Our curling irons and flat irons go up to 450 degrees which seems amazing to get the perfect curl or your hair perfectly straight but that temperature is meant for anyone with super thick and unruly hair. I recommend keeping the temperature between 350-380 and to use minimal heat on the ends.
💧hard water
If you’ve sat in my chair you know how I advocate for getting a filter for your shower head. Unfortunately texas water has a lot of contamination in it and I have personally experienced it and met with a water specialist to confirm it. I recommend a water softener system for your home or a shower filter (on Amazon for $35!)
😴sleeping with wet hair
I understand under Texas heat and humidity blow drying the hair just isn’t your way and creates more issues in styling than helps so sleeping with wet hair overnight is always easiest. I don’t hate this option but the friction between your hair and a cotton pillow will overall cause breakage so i reccomend buying a silk pillow to sleep on to keep your hair healthy & shiny!

I am a huge advocate for having high quality hair with low maintenance care. However low maintenance does not mean the cheaper option.
This is why it is important to invest in great hot tools.

Do you ever feel like when you're blowdrying your hair it takes forever and you end up frizzy and tangled? Its not you- its your blowdryer. If your blowdryer is not ionic or tourmaline you are basically just blowing hot air through a metal grate which creates frizz , tangles and takes shine away.

Ionic and tourmaline blowdryers produce negative ions which then results in a faster blow-dry, a less frizzy blow-dry and more shine.

A blowdryer with ceramic will create those negative ions but not to the power that a tourmaline or ionic blowdryer would. however this will be the more cost effective option to look into.

Most of these types of blowdryers will have higher speed of air which also helps with the drying process.

Its a lot of information I know, but the more you know the better for you (and your hair)😙

The only talking we will do is just for the consultation and whenever I am going to do something in the appointment to direct you and make the appointment as easy as possible.
I will take no offense if you choose to get on your phone, laptop, watch our TVs, or just close your eyes and rest. I want this to feel like a safe space for you and if a quiet appointment creates that for you then I will 100% respect that! All you have to do is ask. 😘
