Hi 👋🏽
Tomorrow is my first day back at . While I am looking forward to seeing people and catching up, I am having a lot of anxiety and self doubt in this decision. I know I can’t stay home any longer, but I know with the rise in cases and the recommended social distancing not being possible I can’t help but dwell on the simple fact I’m putting myself at risk. It’s a crazy conundrum; I’m following all the recommended and required guidelines for “safe” salon reopenings EXCEPT the big one: social distancing. Not only will I not be social distancing from someone outside my household, I won’t be social distancing with 5+ people for prolonged periods per day. I need to work, I need to be productive and help provide for my family, I need to be creative, and yet I am putting everyone at risk to be working.
I just want to be transparent; this is F*cking stressful.
So, I guess I’m just asking you to be patient with me through this time.
Yes, I’ve got FATE masks for sale too. I’m thinking, who wants to get little hairs stuck in your favorite cute cloth mask? Who wants to get haircolor all over their favorite mask that matches their outfit? This could be your “salon” mask, bring it to your appt for the foreseeable future and reuse it (kind of like your nail kit from your nail tech). Anyway, I’ve got a limited supply of these babies so text/DM me if you’d like to prepay me to hold one for your up coming appt.
Don’t forget, I’m happy knowing I get to SEE YOU, my friends and clients (most of you truly are both)- I’m just not excited to put us all at risk.

We need to continue to demand change.
We need to keep showing up in whatever ways we are able.
We need to do more.
We need to listen better.
We need to stay uncomfortable.
This is our problem to fix.

As many of you may have heard by now, salons and other hands-on professions have been included in Governor Brown's first phase reopening plans in our community. We have been given an extensive list of reopening requirements that will completely change our business models and practices — requiring us to be in head to toe ppe while performing services, drastically lengthening appointment times and limiting the amount of stylists and clients that can be in the salon each day (thus forcing us to operate at a deficit and causing immense financial liabilities), while greatly impacting both the client and the provider’s personal experiences and putting stylists, clients, our loved ones, and our community at risk. While my passion is hair and client connection, I and many other Portland area stylists are passionately against being included in phase 1 and are asking to be moved to the final phase. We have formed the Oregon Hairdressers Coalition and have been reaching out to our local and state government officials, have arranged interviews with local news outlets, and have started a petition to be removed from phase 1 plans, and instead be given the long-awaited and desperately needed UI benefits & PPP loans we were all told we would be able to access when this began. This would allow us to make decisions based on reason, safety, & public health, not financial desperation. If you would like to learn more and/or support me and other hands-on professionals in Oregon, please read, sign, and share this link is in my bio.
Thank you all for your continued support 🧡

I really need your help.
Please take the time to sign this.
I want to get back to work, I miss you. I want to go back when it is safe for all of us to go back. I don’t feel comfortable being the one to “step out onto the frozen pond” as Kate Brown put in her press conference. Please stand with me and my safety.
