Locally Wildcrafted Plant Teacher Extracts for Illuminating the Mind, Body and Soul

Cascadia Folk Medicine is a small, family-owned business, founded in 2004 by Scott Kloos, dedicated to supplying our community with high-quality, local botanical medicines imbued with the spiritual essence of the forest. All of our herbs are ethically wildcrafted or organically grown in the mountains, valleys, and gardens of the Cascadia Bioregion. They are harvested at their peak of energetic pot

Relationships of Loving Reciprocity 01/31/2024

When I launched the Relationships of Loving Reciprocity Kickstarter campaign, I had no idea that it would be such a rich process and offer so much beyond just trying to reach our funding goal. Given the subject matter, I should not have been surprised.

It’s been so heartening to connect with so many people and receive such positive feedback about how much our work together has enriched their lives.

We are close to the midpoint of the campaign so I’m hoping the many seeds that have been planted will sprout even more vigorously and continue to bear fruit. We’ve already raised over $10,000! That’s 1/3 of our $30,000 goal, but because it’s a Kickstarter, we have to reach our goal, or we get nothing.

Every little bit helps! If everyone who’s been touched by participating in courses, trips, and sessions with The School of Forest Medicine would pledge even a small amount, we will surely reach our goal.

If caring for the health and vitality of yourself, your friends and family, and the Earth inspires you, please consider pledging to our Kickstarter campaign. Together we can ensure that these plants and their medicine will be available for many generations to come!

Alder's Gift 12/21/2017

Our Red Alder is on "sale" based on the principles of the gift economy through the end of year:

Alder's Gift In its natural environment, Alder initiates the restoration of devastated land. The bark of Red Alder, whose motto is "give more to receive more," speeds the removal of waste products and increases the body's ability to absorb nutrients. It also heals wounds and reduces pain and inflammation. Li...

Living in the Gift Corner at Portland Plant Medicine Gathering

"Gratitude, the recognition that one has received and the desire to give in turn, is our innate default state. How could it not be, when life, breath, and world are gifts? When even the fruit of our own labors is beyond our contrivance? To live in the gift is to reunite with our true nature."

(Charles Eisenstein. Sacred Economics: Money, Gift, and Society in the Age of Transition)

As a way of stepping into the practice of “sacred economics,” we will be offering a handful of tinctures, Red Alder, Ghost Pipe, and Spreading Dogbane, for sale based on the principles of the gift economy. It costs us $4.50 (not including the costs of day-to-day business operations) to produce a 1 oz. bottle of tincture. With this as a starting place, we will invite you as a dear member of the Pacific Northwest plant medicine community to look deeply into your heart and add whatever feels right to this amount as an expression of your gratitude for:

*the time and effort that we’ve put into seeking out and developing relationships with each of these plants and for making their medicine accesible to the community
*the loving care with which we harvest and make these medicines
*the ways we tend to and respect the ecosystems within which they live
*the healing, wisdom, and illumination that you have received or will receive from these plant teachers

We promise to graciously receive any gifts you may offer. Thank you!
