this was a super fun project! this guest came in feeling way too blonde & bright! she had a natural soft dirty blonde base color with a few greys and her ends were very solid, almost platinum blonde. she had been getting foils for a long time and had almost zero dimension on her ends & she felt like she had too much contrast between her base and her blonde.

i did a root smudge in a demi-permanent color and combed it down to create some blend and diffusion, and then i went back through the head & strategically picked out some pieces to lowlight even further down the hair shaft. after she processed for about 25 min, i brought her over to the sink and toned the rest of her blonde to be a little more muted and sandier/beige-ier.

i chose a demi-permanent so that it would give her a chance to see herself with a bit of a darker color. if we love it (and we are OBSESSED!) we may opt for something a little more permanent later down the line. i tend to be a “path of least resistance” kind of stylist; when we’re making changes that feel “big,” i would rather use a demi-permanent color that would fade and have you come back with feedback for me, rather than immediately choose a permanent color that we might have to lighten out later down the line if you want to go back!
