When I was at school, and the careers advice lady asked me what I wanted to do for a job, I said I wanted to be a hairdresser. Her response was: ‘and I suppose you want to have a baby at 16 and live in Tovil, too!

(Tovil is a village nearby where I grew up with lots of council housing, my best friend lived there.)

I was shocked at this comment at the time, and sadly I still witness this sort of mindset from people even now. If l’m out in social situations and meet people for the first time, often they’ll ask what I do and when I say ‘I’m a hairdresser’ | often get told by well meaning friends that ‘No, you’re much more than just a hairdresser’

Yes I teach, travel and am a small business owner but I am also a hairdresser, and that is what is at the core of everything I do work wise. Without being ‘just a hairdresser’ none of the other stuff would be there. And I’m SO proud of it.

I know these friends mean well, but the problem is there is a HUGE stigma around hairdressing as a career still. And comments like this just don’t help in fighting it.

Hairdressing is a GREAT job and, just like allll other jobs, you can dedicate as much time and effort into it as you like. Want to develop the skills to teach? Great. Want to own your own salon? Great. Want to NOT own your own salon? Equally great. (This is another one l’ve had to defend myself against SO many times.) OR want to become an excellent hairdresser who works in a salon and makes people feel incredible every single day? ALSO GREAT.

I celebrated another birthday today. 37 seems so young and old all at the same time,but I am so blessed to be able to have made it this far,when so many never get the chance. In the past two years I have made two of my many dreams come true. I bought a house, and started my own business. There is always a normal level of anxiety that comes with that, but never in a million years did I ever image a National pandemic to strike within those same two years, and almost wipe those two dreams out before they barely got started. Needless to say my anxiety went through the roof for a short period, but I am still standing, determined more than ever, and thriving. It still blows me away the amount of encouragement, love, and support my clients, friends,and family have offered me on my new venture. I worked all day today, but when my client, who didn’t even have an appointment today, showed up just to bring me this on my birthday, I was so overwhelmed with joy. Such a selfless act of unconditional love and support. When people ask me why I do what I do, I always tell them it’s not just about the hair. It’s all that comes with it. I hands down have the most amazing clients, who love me so well, and take care of me just as much as I take care of them and more. Thank you to everyone who sent messages and called me today to wish me a Happy Birthday. I can assure you I have read every message,and every single one brought a smile to my face. I hope I am blessed with many more years to come.🥰

My favorite reporter stopped in to my new space this week to show her support, and to let me show her hair some love!💕I have been doing this beautiful souls hair for several years now, and let me tell you. These reporters already have a tough job to do, but 2020, has been extremely tough. They don’t always get to report the good news, but at the end of their day, they have a job to do, just like everyone else. Please help me by showing these reporters some love. I know this one in particular has the most amazing heart! . . . . #2020

First day back at work was a success! This is what working a 13+ hour day on your feet, behind a mask, and burning up looks like. My hair may look like a hot mess, and I may not be able to feel my feet, but it was all worth it to see all my wonderful clients. Thank you all so much for complying with the new rules,and wearing your mask,and keeping me laughing all day. I have missed you all so much. The most important thing is that we survived. I have mad respect for all of the health care providers who have to wear a mask all day everyday. 🙌. Ready to get up and do it all over again tomorrow, but first, who wants to massage my feet?😂

I then Root Tapped her roots,and glazed her midshaft and ends. Thank you so much to my client for allowing me to create this look for her.
