There is so much recycled noise (some valid points) on my timeline right now about XERF and the SMAS…I totally get the initial hesitation. Your immediate thought when a new device claims it can reach the “facelift” layer is: “Is this going to scar down the SMAS and ruin my future surgical planes?”
Valid question.
But the current panic is becoming an echo chamber and extension of misinformation…. people are conflating two completely different mechanisms of action. The physics are entirely different, and the histology proves it. Swipe through. Let’s break down the actual data and look at the science.
Why I retired traditional facials in January. 🤫It wasn’t a rebrand. It was the data.
A new study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology confirmed what I’d been watching in my own treatment rooms: laser-assisted facials don’t just work on the surface…they work at the cellular level.
Traditional facials treat what you can see. Lasers work where those areas fall short… for example…
• Pigment, addressed at its source. We’re influencing melanin activity where it starts, not exfoliating dark spots off the top layer only to watch them return.
•Fibroblast activation. Deep dermal stimulation that turns collagen production back on. No peeling. No downtime.
🔊 Sound on for the full breakdown. Questions about lasers, drop them below.

When we treat aging at every layer, the results speak for themselves: softer, lifted, and genuinely refreshed without looking like a different person. She wanted to go slow and not jump into the deep end right away. No fillers. In her after photo, you’ll notice:
•Softer nasolabial folds (those smile lines)
•Restored volume in the cheeks
•A refreshed, brighter under-eye area
•A more lifted, smile and defined jawline
Most people don’t get aging isn’t just about one thing or skin deep. It happens in layers. Some regions of the face faster than others. As we get older, our face changes from the inside out:
•Bone slowly resorbs, so we lose structure and support
•Fat pads shrink and shift, creating hollows and sagging
•Muscles lose tone and volume
•Skin thins, dries out, and loses its bounce
That’s why chasing one wrinkle rarely works. The higher the number on your birthday cake, the more strategic and tailored your plan has to be in treating the layers underneath.
Here’s what actually moved the needle for her:
•Laser facials → smoothed skin texture and boosted overall skin quality
•Sculptra (PLLA) → a biostimulator that gently kickstarts your own collagen for firmer, healthier-looking skin over time
•Mesotherapy → calmed under-eye puffiness (edema) and tightened skin laxity for that fresh, well-rested glow
The result ….refreshed. She looks rested, lifted, and like herself again, because we worked with her anatomy instead of against it. That’s the difference between chasing trends and working with constraint.

Hypochlorous acid has been in medicine for decaaaaades. It’s your immune system’s own antimicrobial….yet it's very trendy now.
I’ll be honest I wasn’t rushing to post about this when the algorithm started pushing it. My hesitation had nothing to do with the science (the science has always been solid) and everything to do with watching brands slap premium pricing on something that’s been used in wound care and clinical settings for years. That part still makes me raise an eyebrow.
What I have always loved it for? My patients with dermatitis, eczema, perioral dermatitis..the ones whose skin feels like a constant rollercoaster with no predictable pattern. Hypochlorous acid has a legitimate role there, and I’ve recommended it quietly for a long time.
But lately more of my patients have been benefiting from it well beyond those indications, and that shifted things for me enough to actually talk about it publicly. Here’s what I also want you to know before you spend your money: most of these hypochlorous acid products are the exact same molecule. Not similar. The same. There are very few exceptions, and I explain exactly why...and what actually distinguishes the ones that are different in the slides.
